There are no locking bolts in the Grizzly model table. There is a ball bearing that is pressed onto the table shaft. On mine, it isn"t a tight fit and is easily removed with slight pressure. It isn"t easy to hold the casting while pressing on the table shaft, but it is fairly easy to remove, once you remove the worm gear.

The screw in the bottom is used to adjust the spacing between the edge of the table and the casting. I tighten it until it barely moves, back off the screw about 1/8 turn and smack it with a brass hammer.

One note, there is a slight bit of space between the side of the table and the base casting, so if you plan on using the locking screw, center the table with the screw tight. It can make a thousandths or two difference.

Not sure I agree with you folks that claim that one needs a rotab in order to make a rotab. However, depending on the size of table you want to make you will need a lathe with a swing at least as large as the rotab. IOW your rotab will be a teensy one.

The mill works better than I had expected. I think the last mill project I had was to duplicate the "jaw" of a movement post: the brass one had stripped out, so I replaced it with a steel one, salvaging the steel from a trash-can axle. As on any machine tool you have to expect some flexing, and so light cuts are helpful if you"re dealing with anything but aluminum. I don"t think I can use any but the smallest and simplest rotary table-thing (with or without chuck) given the space constraints.

As for the term "hinge", I made that up. The one I am thinking of is still called a rotary table; there are two parts ... the rotary table, and then the base. The two are connected on one side by the hinges (just two tabs with holes, a rod, and the horizontal hole in the base that the rod goes through). The tab parts fit over the edges of the base and the rod slides through the tab holes and the horizontal hole in the base.

Even with a rotary table that is not hinged, you can mount it vertically and in that position you might call it a dividing head because you can usually buy a tailstock for it, and, for certain ones the dividing plates.

FWIW...when I first got this DRO...you all told me how inaccurate it would be. First test...Ran the table to the far right...zeroed the handwheel and the DRO. Turn for turn of the leadscrew gave identical .100 travel per handwheel revolution and DRO readout for the entire travel of the table. That was good enough for me.

The reason FSL goes with the design they do (traction on rollers) is that they use a fixed setup for DPI. With a chuck rotary, you have no control over the DPI on the surface of your part as it can hold a variety of diameters. The rollers are a known fixed diameter, and any object will turn at 1000 steps per inch regardless of it"s diameter. The chuck rotary would be far more precise, but you"re opening up a different can of worms here.

AriensCo began in 1933 when Henry Ariens and his three sons developed the first American-made rotary tiller. They did this at a time when other manufacturers were experimenting with imported tillers. Since then, the company has been passed down, son to son, for four generations. Over the course of nearly 90 years, the company’s zip code, along with their CEOs’ last names have remained the same.

Founded in 1959, Generac was the first company to engineer affordable home standby generators. They also claim the first engine developed specifically for the rigors of generator use. Currently, Generac claims to be the largest portable generator manufacturer in North America.

They assemble all of their belt-driven models, including both portable and stationary air compressors, as well as some of their direct drives, at Rolair’s facility in Hustisford, WI. The company assembles over 90% of its compressors in the USA.
