overshot card wads quotation

Overshot cards are placed on top of the shot column, just before crimping. Overshot cards aid the load"s combustion process. This produces more consistent pressures and velocities. Also, overshot card wads help the crimp to contain the payload (buffer) and keep contaminants and moisture out.

Place an overshot card on top of the shot charge just before crimping to improve overall crimp quality and seal in small shot and/or buffer. Excellent for use with BPI Roll Crimpers.

Our testing lab has proven that poor crimps can alter the performance of an otherwise good load. Overshot cards always produce better, more consistent crimps and this consistency is demonstrated in the standard deviation of loads in our lab. Our ballistic lab recommends overshot cards for better crimps in all loads.

Clear Overshot Disks(either plain or printed with shot size) are also offered for great roll crimping options. See pictures in Additional Images or click on this link.

Shotshell size selection: Use the same size gauge as your hull. Smaller diameter cards also work if your particular size is out of stock. For example, a 20ga overshot card works in a 16-gauge shotshell and so on.

My percussion gun is a CVA 12 gauge CB shotgun. I have used single cards, and 2 OS cards( shirt-back cardboard) just to see if they blow my patterns at all using the two of them, and found no difference in patterns. Neither have the wads moved in recoil.

My Fowler is suppose to be 20 gauge, but it actually measures closer to 19 gauge! :shocked2: It was given to me as a birthday present by my brother, along with 20 gauge wads and cards. We found out the problems the first time we shot the gun. We had to order new 19 gauge OP wads, and OS cards, before the guns shot satisfactory. With the 19 gauge card in place I can turn the muzzle down, and shake that gun up and down, and the load does Not MOVE!

You have to actually MEASURE your bore diameter to answer the question for EVERY GUN. This is one time when "doing it the way others do it" simply is not very good advice. Do NOT rely on what is stamped on the barrel in ordering your wads and cards. :hmm: :surrender:  :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

overshot card wads quotation

Purely by accident I discovered what for me is the best backing for punching wads. We built our deck from Timber-Tek, (I think that"s the right name). Consequently we had left over ends and butts just as if it was built of wood. I couldn"t find my piece of industrial belting I had used for years and got to examining a piece of the deck material. Seemed little hard to me but figured I didn"t have anything to lose so I "gave it a whack" with my punch and a florist box. Doggone stuff works great and didn"t dull the punch at all, which I thought it would do. Been using it ever since and have yet to sharpen a punch. What we used has one side in wood grain and the back side is smooth.

Not sure if anyone would be interested or not, but a while ago I got sick of being told my LGS was out of "specialty" shotgun components (non-resin wads, filler wads, cushion wads, overshot cards) so I decided to make a press-mounted tool to produce my own.

If I remember correctly, I believe Ned stated he never used an overshot card as he didn"t want anything over the shot column. The Polywad Spreader system is based on an overshot wad by the way.
