I ordered a rotary table from Enco. MSC had the same table, but at a much higher price. Enco was about $220 and MSC was about $450 for exactly the same product. When it arrived, I noticed that the shipper"s return address on the crate was from MSC, but all the paperwork and billing is from Enco. Do they both use the same warehouse or are they under the same ownership? If so, how can Enco sell exactly the same thing for so much less than MSC? The price difference is so huge it makes me suspicious.

I have ordered lots of stuff from Enco, never had any problems and returns have always been hassle-free and promptly processed. I"m just wondering what the relationship is between Enco and MSC.

Enco is part of MSC and is the discount operation as of a few years ago. MSC is aimed at industry with big bux. They have to charge more just to pay for that humongous "big book" catalog they give out. In many cases what you get from Enco is the same thing. (but not always)

3) MSC prices are higher than Enco. Be careful because sometimes MSC is actually a few $ cheaper than Enco when the same item is listed in a sales flyer (although rare).

My bottom line... since I am a hobby guy, I always order from Enco. With that said, I often order from MSC because thay have (it) and Enco does not. Many of my firiends order from McMaster Carr.

Has the customer service and quality of the Enco stuff improved since they were independent of MSC? I haven"t ordered from them in some 15 years due to, among other things, poor quality and horrid service. I might try again if the quality and customer service have improved since then.[/i]

For what is worth, Sunday I made a small online order to Enco and could not find a place to enter the free shipping code, assuming it was to be entered as part of the ceck out process.

Disappointed I could not use the code I sent an e-mail to Enco CS asking to describe how does the free code work. Did not ask for a refund or retroactive, I did not even specify my address.

I orderd a product from Enco and the container came damaged enough that I needed to use my own container. They refunded the purchase price for the item. Another product I ordered turned out to be awful (drill gauge - holes were not precise enough to determine drill size). They refunded my money and did not require me to ship it back (it hardly cost anything, but they were very good about it).

I agree with other posters comments. One not mentioned is that MSC never lets you know what the shipping charge will be when you order, while you can usually get free shipping from Enco.

Odd thing about the Enco/MSC operation in Atlanta. If you order from MSC you can pick up the order from the "will call" desk at the warehouse. Order the samr item(or any other item, for that matter) from Enco, it comes from the same warehouse, no pickup must be shipped!

Unfortualy im not completely sure if its the set screws in the silver part or black part. And if that black "knob" part that sticks out has anything to do with it. But basicly the operation is getting that handle to freely move (its locked in place by SOMETHING, and will freely rotate once that is removed), rotate it about 90~180 degrees and the table should spin freely (Well, with a really strong nudge, but no need to beat on it with a hammer)

This will be a bit convoluted but...that Enco table looks very much like an "Advance" table (there is one for sale here, w an X-Y slide on top but still...) anyway, there is some discussion here

PS: If your RT did not come with dividing plates and none are available, you can make a set using the table itself. I previously posted this elsewhere, so I am quoting myself;

You CAN make a set of circles on your own, using ONLY the dividing head or rotary table you already have. They WILL be just as accurate as your worm gear is, with a small bit of random error due to the uncertainties of the machining process. I have described this process several times and you can search this site (Activity Stream - The Home Shop Machinist & Machinist"s Workshop Magazine"s BBS) for these lengthy explanations, but here are the short strokes:

A rotary table used in conjunction with a mill allows a machinist to produce virtually any part they can design. Sherline’s rotary table is a precision piece of equipment that has been designed to work with their vertical milling machines. However, it can be used on any mill whenever the small 4-inch size would be an advantage. The only limits are size, not complexity.

The table is 2″ high and 4″ (100mm) in diameter. The main components have been machined from solid bar stock steel, and the complete unit weighs seven pounds. The table has been engraved with a laser, giving sharp and precise lines every 5°, numbered every 15°. These lines are calibrated with the 72-tooth worm gear that is driven by the handwheel. The handwheel is divided into 50 parts, making each line on the handwheel 1/10°. This allows a circle to be divided into 3600 increments without interpolation. Seventy-two revolutions of the handwheel rotate the table one revolution.

The rotary tables can hold more weight when they are not under a continuous load. Click on the Video tab above to see examples of different weights and uses for our rotary tables.

The table T-slots are identical to those used on the Sherline mill and lathe, making the vast line of Sherline tooling available for use with this product. Two hold-down clamps and T-nuts are provided with the table. Also included is an adapter that allows Sherline’s 3- and 4-jaw chucks to be screwed directly to the rotary table. An optional right-angle attachment is available (P/N 3701) to mount the table in the vertical position to increase its versatility further. With the table mounted vertically, an optional adjustable right-angle tailstock (P/N 3702) can be mounted to the mill table. It is used to support and stabilize the other end of long work held in a chuck or otherwise attached to the rotary table.

Our direct drive rotary tables provide high torque and are easy to integrate. They contain high-energy magnets in a simplified mechanical design and drive loads directly without the need for a transmission mechanism or gearbox. It allows customers to build them right into a drive system for flexible placement and integration with cooling pipes and cables, for example.

We supply a wide range of frameless motors, and our adjustable motors include an optical encoder, scale, bearing and housing. Given our selection, it can be challenging to choose the best direct drive motor for your project. Our engineers prefer to help you find the right rotary table for your requirements.

Our most popular rotary motor, the AXD series is characterized by a slim, compact "pancake" design with high peak and continuous torque despite the motor"s quite small form factor.Direct drive and brushless motor

The ACD series is a set of ironless rotary tables. This motor is cogging-free and features high-resolution optical encoder feedback and low speed variability. This permanent magnet motor is equally suited for either low or high speed applications.Zero cogging coreless motor

The ADR-A series is available with both low and high speed windings and is fully equipped with an encoder and bearing. This series has a high slot fill factor and generates very high torque.Direct drive brushless permanent magnet motor
