The VERTICAL TRAVELING COLUMN (VTC) 200C Vertical Machining Center features a powerful 40 Taper spindle, full traveling column design and fixed table for machining of extremely long and heavy workpieces. Or with a table center partition the machine work envelop can be transformed into two separate work areas that allow the machine to be in cycle in one work area, while a part is being set up in the other work area. Made in Kentucky, the VC-500A/5X Vertical Machining Center has a trunnion-style rotary/tilt table that allows for the accurate, cost-effective processing of small complex parts via full 5-axis machining. The machine also features the MAZATROL SmoothX CNC that allows for easier programming and faster part cycle times, in either EIA or MAZATROL conversational.

Axis travels for the VC-500A/5X measure 19.88" in X, 19.88" in Y and 20.07" in Z, allowing it to accommodate a part sizes up to 19.68" in diameter and 12" high. Rapid traverse speeds for these three linear axes are now 1,181 ipm.

To minimize thermal displacement, Mazak incorporates an oil chiller that cools the VC-500A/5X’s head and table. The machine’s trunnion-style rotary/tilt table is constructed with durable high-speed roller gear cam drive technology for high torsional rigidity and positioning accuracy. The table tilts +110 degrees / -110 degrees in the B axis and rotates 360 degrees in the C axis and can accommodate workpiece weights up to 440 lbs.

Mazak’s MAZATROL SmoothX CNC on the VC-500A/5X makes it easy to generate programs for highly complex parts production. It has several advanced functions that allow it to ensure the shortest possible machining cycle times, especially in fine increment programs for simultaneous 5-axis operations and free-form die-mold machining. These functions include High Gain Feed Forward Control, Fast Rotary Axis Speeds, Variable Acceleration Control and Intelligent Pocket Milling.

Please tell me someone can help me resolve this issue. I’ll do my best to convey where I am in the process with the information that I possess; as I purchased it used and did not get the rotary table nor much of the manuals with it; I got it CHEAP (and luckily, it is super nice). I’ll start with the basics.

Well, after a quick inspection of the basics; it was indeed configured for use with a rotary (A) axis. A quick peek in the cabinet revealed an MDS-B-V1-05 Mitsubishi drive, labeled “A Axis.” Moving on to the machining envelope, sure enough, there are a pair of communication ports and a hydraulic quick disconnect (for the brake, I surmise). Both communication ports had their protective caps securely affixed, as well as a protective cover over the hydraulic quick disconnect; appears to have been in place since the machine was built. So, this leads me to believe that “all I need now” (LOL), would be an appropriately sized rotary table, with compatible servo motor, communications cables, and proper hydraulic line (again, for braking I suppose). It would stand to reason that I’ll have to actually “turn the option on” via parameters; which I wouldn’t imagine being too difficult to obtain from Mazak.....maybe?

It’s just such a shame having this little mill, in such AMAZING running condition. Previous owner must have had one Hell of PM department as the spindle looks and sounds like brand new, all the way up to the 12,000rpm max, the X,Y, and Z axis move as silently as a new machine would (at 100% rapid traverse), has a chip conveyor, and not a single Knick mark on the table, and even the slide way covers are perfect. It would be SO nice to have an actual full 4th on it as well.
