The AGCS™ and AGCD™ seals are designed to fit the full six bearing frame range of the AhlstarUP pump models. AESSEAL® is believed to be the only seal manufacturer to offer a fully integrated and glandless cartridge mechanical seal range for these pumps, which were launched by Sulzer in 2006 with a view to superseding the APP and APT ranges.

AESSEAL® has designed an innovative “bi–metal” exotic alloy seal. Alloy 20, Alloy 276, Alloy 400 and Titanium grade 2 are inventoried in popular modular wetted component sizes. Any additional commercially available special alloys are made to order. These special alloy parts are fitted to the standard Stainless Steel components. The use of a neutralizing barrier fluid protects the secondary Stainless Steel parts that are not exposed to the process fluid during normal operation.

Availability and flexibility of design meets the special demands of the corrosive fluid containment market. Variations to the seal specification can be accomplished by selecting from many different options. Seal faces are offered in any combination of Silicon Carbide, Tungsten Carbide and Carbon, both inboard and outboard.

Cartridge seals are a modern alternative designed to eliminate common causes of component seal failure. Check pump unit for defects before installing a cartridge seal to avoid damage to seal parts.

Single cartridge or double cartridge seals are self-contained units comprised of a shaft sleeve, seal, and gland plate. Cartridge seals are fitted onto the pump shaft as a single unit with no further fitting or assembly required.

A pusher-type seal consists of a primary sealing ring assembled with an "O" ring and springs which force the sealing liquid across the face and keep it from leaking to the ID side of the seal.

The dynamic O-ring is designed to be pushed axially along the shaft. The surface underneath the dynamic Oring must therefore be very smooth to allow for axial movement. If solids are abundant in the sealing fluid, they can build up on the o-ring and prevent this axial movement.

Pusher types seals are less expensive and are readily available in a wide range of sizes and designs. The only disadvantage being a tendency to hang up and fretting of the shaft.
