Drill-out is a drill-bit and extractor in one tool. Drill-out incorporates a unique interaction between drill bit and extractor resulting in maximum impact and break out ability. Serrated extracting end of tool results in greater torque for hard to remove bolts.

I"ll admit there was a few minutes where I regretted the decision to do this work myself. I thought "fuck, if I would have paid the shop to do the work, the broken bolt would be their problem". Then again, they may have just left it for the next guy too.

The only times left handed bits, or extractors for that matter, have pulled a broken bolt out is when you could have unscrewed it by hand if you were able to grab it. If it was tight all the way out and then also going back in a lh bit isn’t going to touch it.

I have backed out untold numbers of broken fasteners ranging in size from 7/8” dia to #4 with left handed bits, some severely rusted/corroded (think seawater and bilge pumps from naval ships).

It’s nice that they work for you in your nice shop with a mill. I’ve only had 20yrs of rolling around in the mud, gravel and trash working on heavy machinery. Left hand bits have some usefulness but it’s fairly limited in my experience.

You can make a metal plate to bridge the broken one and tie the twos bolts ( one on each side of the broken bolt ) together. You won’t have a problem with it leaking but don’t get into water that is above the broken bolt.
