The historic Big Hole Pumpstation is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2010, Butte-Silver Bow signed a federal agreement which called on them to write or have written and then implement a management plan for the pumpstation, which they proposed to abandon when they built the new station. It also called for independent (non-BSB), professional (non-BSB) annual maintenance inspections, to ensure that the building and site were actually being maintained. It took the Historic Preservation Officer almost a year to write any plan. That task would normally take, at most, 90 days. There is no evidence to date that the plan has actually been implemented, other than fencing off the building. Actually, that fence was erected after someone stole brass gauges from inside, which have never been recovered and apparently the investigation into the theft, simply went away. Also, there is no evidence that any annual maintenance inspections have ever been done. If people believe this historic site is of value, perhaps they should be asking BSB why nothing has been done.
