Learn a new weave structure, enjoy the convenience of having everything you need for a project ready to go on the loom and stretch your weaving budget without having to buy more yarn than you need. I like to call it "instant gratification" weaving.
For over twenty-five years I have been discovering the magic of weaving. In 2004, I completed and passed, the Handweavers Guild of America Certificate of Excellence, Level 1 in Handweaving. In 2010, I created dje handwovens, designing textiles for kits for handweavers. In 2011, I teamed up with Mountain Colors yarns as their exclusive weaving designer. In 2012, I started offering my kits through retailers across the U.S.
The rigid heddle kits feature Mountain Colors hand painted yarns, Lunatic Fringe Tubular Spectrum cottons and American Maid natural colored cottons, and hemp! All kits come with a pre-wound warp ready to go on your loom, weft and detailed instructions plus tips/tricks for weaving on your rigid heddle looms!
Who says plain weave should have all the fun of Color and Weave patterns? Playing with the classic Color and Weave log cabin and houndstooth threading on a twill tie-up and treadling equals four different pattern possibilities in each set of napkins. A fun, fast weave, this kit features Bluegrass Mills 6/2 unmercerized cotton in 3 different color combinations. Instructions also include weaving the piece as a table runner instead!
Remember secret decoder rings and writing special messages for your friends? Overshot name drafts are woven "secret messages" created by assigning each letter of a phrase to a shaft on the loom.
This scarf started life as an overshot name draft, but some floats were a little long. So I converted it to double weave and on only 4 shafts! The result is a scarf with two distinct sides--like two scarves in one! 100% Tencel
This 4-shaft name draft design is based on "My superpower is weaving!" Featuring Mountain Colors Yarns hand painted gradient superwash wool (pattern weft) and Tencel (warp and tabby weft) that combine to create a soft scarf with a lovely hand and drape. And yes! Weaving is a superpower!

My specialty is weaving secret messages using overshot name draft designs. Like a secret code, the letters from words, names, and phrases are assigned to the shafts of the loom, creating unique designs for each message. While the actual letters are not visible in the cloth, the secret message is clear for those who have been told how to break the code.
The kits on this page are available exclusively to retailers through dje handwovens. All kits include a pre-wound/measured warp ready to go on the loom, weft yarns, and detailed instructions with weaving tips and tricks. The colorways available are listed with each sample picture.
This overshot name draft kit uses American Maid natural color cotton yarns. The cotton is raised on farms in the U.S. that participate in the Sustainable Cotton Project. All yarns are then spun in the U.S. The natural color green and golden tan cottons used for the pattern get darker with washing!
After teaching as a professor of Design and Weaving at the University of Montana and Cal Poly in California, Joanne decided to open her studio in Montana to weave tapestries and teach classes. She has been teaching weaving throughout the US and Canada since 1972.
Using a variety of types of looms, you will learn the basics of weaving. Some looms will be prepared and ready for you to weave. Planning projects and warping the loom can be a part of the class. We will start at the level you are at, as this class is designed to fit your weaving skill level.
Weaving on a drawloom is a lot of fun. Learn to weave your name or any pattern you can put onto graph paper. Two different types of drawlooms are set up for learning to weave, both damask and pattern weaving. Plan on three days. Longer workshops can include warping the drawloom.
Learn tapestry weaving on a frame loom or a floor loom. Basic techniques will be woven in a sampler. If you are not a beginner, the class can be designed to fit your skill level.
Studio classes are primarily private classes. I work with you individually and generally there are not more than 3 students in a class. Select the weaving topic you would like to study and the dates you would like to come. Contact me for more details, toll free 866-890-7314 or use the contact form.
Product Information38 Projects to Practice Your SkillsOvershot is perhaps the most iconic weaving technique--think antique coverlets and fancy table runners--yet many weavers are intimidated by its complex-looking structure. But it doesn"t have to be difficult! In this book, Susan Kesler-Simpson makes overshot approachable by breaking it down piece by piece so that the weaver understands how it works, and then she puts it all back together so that weavers will have the confidence to make their own overshot patterns or to try any of the 38 overshot projects she has designed for the book. "Susan"s explanations are to the point and easy to understand. When you read through the chapters, it"s as if Susan is sitting there with you, telling you in a friendly voice how to weave overshot step by step." - excerpt from the Foreword by Tom Knisely
I have been considering getting weaving softwear and really liked this demo. I understand that I can download it for free to try, but I see people saying there is a discount or sale associated with this website but have not seen where that has been stated. Where can I find the discount price and how to obtain the discount? Thanks for such great weaving classes – I am learning SO much as I am a fairly new weaver in general, and just moved from a ridgid heddle loom to an 8 shaft in January.
I viewed the video again and found the section where he talks about samples. It is in the chapter “Varying Thread Thickness” and he is talking about thread thickness, specifically in regards to rep patterns and that is when he shows how to view the samples. His instructions are to go to Documents, then “My Weaving” and in this folder are 2 subfolders entitled “My Designs” and “Samples”. I also got out my manual and found the section on saving files and I discovered that this “My Weaving” file is mentioned there too (I hadn’t noticed before). I went to my Documents file but did not find these folders. I have always been saving my design in a folder I made and gave another name.
It’s so long ago that I set up Fiberworks. When I started using it I was on a PC and then converted to a Mac. I moved My Weaving folder into my personal folder along with my other weaving files. Could you have done that? I’m sure you’ve done a search – but I had to look for mine when you mentioned it
