If companies can get past those challenges, robotic systems like the offshore riser can not only help improve safety, but can allow workers to step away from boring jobs with the potential for injury.  John Martin, the president of Offshore Robotics, said that’s what makes the riser successful: it eliminates the need for four people to haul and install those 55 pound bolts.

“It"s very tiresome on the people that are doing the task,” Martin said, but when they got the robotic riser system up he adds that, “the operators, the floor hands, they are seeing these robots doing the job that they used to do – and instead of being upset, they come and thank me.”
