A while back future work would finally put me in need of a "real" rotary table, so having no local sources I went looking on eBay and found this 9" Troyke. The Troyke name spoke for itself, and as it was without the excessive table height you find on most imported RTs nowadays, this one fit the bill. At the time there were maybe five or six 9" eBay Troykes for sale in various conditions - from excellent (and expensive), to beaten-up and not so expensive. But one, the cheapest, caught my eye.

When I unboxed it, it was indeed just filthy, covered in a dense gritty grime, but with no immediately visible damage. A full disassembly, soaking, and cleaning showed me it was practically NEW. There wasn"t a mark or rust anywhere and on the underside of the table the final fitter had scratched his name and date . . Feb 1953. I also saw that most moving parts showed signs of hand-fitting and the whole thing was designed to allow "taking up" and rebuilding. The only thing I did to it was to scrub up the base and apply a fresh coat of machine grey enamel. After so long the C.I. table is darkened with age but the reddish tinge you see isn"t rust, and isn"t visible in person. The crank handle and collars are just as they appeared from under the grime.

3.DD motor: it’s the most efficient rotary table with the highest precision. It has the highest precision because it has no mechanical structure, which is directly driven by motor , no reducer. It has high technical difficulty and high price. It is generally used for five axis machine tools.

I have used it in the vertical position to cut a 107 tooth gear which isn"t covered by any of the dividing head wheels I"ve got. I set up an excel spreadsheet with the angle required for each tooth which isn"t as easy as it sounds as the rotary table is calibrated in degrees/minutes/seconds rather than decimal degrees so it took a bit of figuring out how to do it.
