Why can"t I seem to be able to find a really nice, very acurate, well made, ball-screw X-Y table that would bolt down to your existing table like a really great Rotary table/indexing head does? Seems like a small (6x10? er ..??) x-y table with sooper good axes would be an instant hit with folks that have cheaper mills that wish to do CNC.
