The ULTRADEX MK II & III Indexing Table is designed for precision machining, inspection, calibration, test gear and other applications where absolute rotary positioning accuracies of 1/2 arc second band tolerance not accumulative (+/- 1/8 arc second) or better are required, with a repeatability accuracies to +/- 1/20 arc second.

The tables are manufactured for manual indexing applications; automatic tables are available (consult factory). They are supplied with a wide range of indexing positions varying from 180 to 1440. Accessories are supplied for sub-dividing the positioning increments, by both mechanical and electronic means, to give an almost infinite number or rotary positions.

To the best of my knowledge, Ultradex was the AA Gage tradename for a very precise rotary indexer that used a pair of face gears to divide the circle into aliquot parts. Face-gear couplings have been made in two main flavors; the Hirth coupling uses straight-flank radial teeth, and the Gleason "Curvic" coupling uses radial teeth having convex / concave flanks.

My first experience with an Ultradex table was 40 years ago, and the table itself was decades old at the time. It had a 360-tooth pair of face gears, providing 1-degree +/- 1/2 arcsecond indexing increments. An angle generated by indexing the table to two different positions would therefore have a maximum error magnitude of 1 arcsecond. A later generation Ultradex offered single-position indexing within 1/4 arcsecond magnitude.

The original Hirth and Curvic couplings required raising the table itself off its base to de-couple the coupling. A non-rising variant was developed later, based on 3 face gears. Two of the face gears are concentric. One is fixed to the inside of the base, surrounding a second that is fixed to the underside of the platen. These two face gears do not contact each other.

Moore Tool manufactures a complete line of high precision, CNC positioning and contouring rotary tables from 12 inches (305 mm) to 96 inches (2.4 m) in diameter. We also offer service and remanufacturing services on tables that we have built.

The Moore 1440 Precision Index is a serrated-tooth circle divider of highest accuracy using two face gears of identical shape and pitch. During operation, the table is displaced axially to disengage the teeth and radially to the desired angle. The instrument is guaranteed to be accurate to within ±0.1 second of arc at any of the 1440 indexed positions

Rusach International has continued an on-going program of design and development, benefiting from years of experience in the design of special purpose Rotary Tables, Pallet Automation Systems and Metrology Products, from our Eimeldingen years. An increased product range through acquisitions and product development has enhanced the company"s work on high accuracy rotary tables. A natural progression was the introduction of retrofitting  pallet automation systems in 1976. These have subsequently been supplied in "stand alone" and FMS form to suit a wide range of machining applications, also over the last few years supplying rotary and tilt CNC tables fully integrated onto slideways or as full bases for various machines.

Designed and manufactured to the highest level of quality, our rotary tables feature distortion-free active clamping with roller bearings for high-resolution rotation. The rigid design and solid components make loading capacities of up to 100+ tons possible.

You will be unpleasantly surprised, when they tell you how much this will cost. Even a small accurate rotary will cost them at least $3 to $4k. Let alone the integration etc etc. So your cost will quickly soar well above $10k.

You need a very accurate rotary. Angular accuracy is important, but a much more important error is the wobble. That is the angular motion of table perpendicular to the table surface. Since this is an angular error, it can cause huge errors, if your part is somewhat larger. Most manufacturers comp for angular error. Few comp for wobble! If you get one, make sure they at least test for wobble (done with 2 call spheres). I would insist on wobble comp.

If you feel that a rotary table is the solution, get a real good one (be aware that it may take a lot of your measuring volume away too)! And calibrate it continuously. If you fail to do that, using your PH9 angles (or re-datuming) is quickly going to be much more accurate.

It has been my experience that if you have a machine and a family of parts that can use the table (in other words, you seldomly (re)move it), it makes sense to invest in a rotary. If you have a few part numbers (and therefore take the table off a lot), I would first try every other measuring method in the book. It would be my very last choice.

We were selling the precision index table called "Ultradex®" and manufactured by AA Gage in Japan. Last year we were talking about this "Ultradex®" with an engineer of a customer and have fixed the specification after several discussions per E-mail. Then we were asked about this inquiry by the purchase department whether we are the sole agent or not. We had some experiences to sell "Ultradex®" to Japanese customers, however we have not yet discussed about this distribution issue with Manager of Firm A.G. Davis - AA Gage, after AA Gage joined with A. G. Davis. We answered the customer that we are not a sole agent but we can directly buy "Ultradex®" and do the after sales service in Japan. However the customer bought it through a Japanese company in the States, then the manufacturer had to sell it to him. It is unfair, because we have decided the specification after discussion with the customerfs engineer. The Japanese company knew only the Type Number of the "ULTRADEX®" and he could buy it and sell it with his lowest commission. We are not big, so we cannot take the responsibility to be a sole agent in Japan. But the manufacturer wrote for us the Certificate of the Sales Representative in Japan. We can of course sell all products of Firm A.G. Davis - AA Gage, and we will do our best with our good faith to the customer who contacts with us as in the past. Please watch and ask us with warm look, thank you.

A trading company asked us whether we can import the A.G. Davis Groove Gage, after he saw our web site. According to him the end use uses the Groove Gage as the photo of the right side, and the gage was engraved the name of A.G. Davis on it. The end user wanted to change the dimension. We were importing the "Ultradex®" of AA Gage, however we had not yet contacted with Firm A.G. Davis - AA Gage, after AA Gage joined with A.G. Davis. And we begun to contact with Firm A.G. Davis - AA Gage, we could place an order after several E-mai exchanges, and we could deliver the Groove Gage without a problem. After this in the future we were recognized to import the goods from Firm A.G. Davis - AA Gage directly.

Many rotary table manufacturers outsource gear fabrication to lower costs. While that strategy may offer short term cost savings, Index Design’s American made rotary tables are built with gears cut in house. This is the only way to closely monitor and control tolerances, consistency and performance.

Our rotary tables incorporate large diameter high tensile bronze worm gears mated against hardened steel drive shafts. The combination of metal gives superior wear properties for long lasting operation. As the rotary table is run, the properties of a tin bronze gear develops a low friction deposit on the mating steel drive shaft. These deposits fill in microscopic pores of the mating surface. Over time, as these deposits are embedded on the surface, wear decreases followed by a reduction in frictional forces within the gear assembly.

In addition, the data gathered from our automated calibration procedure allow our engineers to assess, monitor and improve the static and dynamic performance of prototype rotary tables during the design phase.

Our engineers have a long and rich history in the machine tool business, they combine decades of both CNC machine tool and rotary table manufacturing experience with the latest design tools to produce rotary tables with superior performance and dependability.

Our CAD/CAM software is used to analyze displacement and stress for each component, sub-assembly and total assembly. However, the best software and technology is worth next to nothing if no one understands the craftsmanship. This is particularly true when manufacturing precision rotary tables which involves many steps. Despite all the modernization and automation available, a large part of the manufacturing process is still completed by hand. At Index Designs, we understand and appreciate craftsmanship, It is designed and built into our products.
