A furnace gas valve replacement costs $200 to $800 on average. Furnace gas valve prices are $75 to $300 for the part alone or up to $600 for original manufacturer parts (OEM). Gas valve replacement labor costs $125 to $500. Furnace gas valve repair costs $75 to $200.
Furnace gas valve prices are $50 to $300 on average or up to $600 for original manufacturer parts (OEM) without installation. Gas valve prices depend on the type and brand.
A furnace gas valve repair costs $75 to $200 for diagnostics, valve cleaning, and tightening connections for minor problems. However, a faulty gas valve that needs internal repairs requires a full gas valve replacement. Only the part manufacturer can legally repair a gas valve for safety reasons.
The cost to replace a gas fireplace valve is $300 to $500 on average, including a full fireplace inspection and diagnostic tests. The total cost depends on the valve brand and fireplace accessibility.
The gas valve on a furnace opens or closes to regulate the gas flow to the pilot light and burners. A properly functioning gas valve is necessary to stop gas leaks and maintain indoor temperatures. Gas-valve designs are specific to different furnace makes and models.
If a furnace gas valve is bad, there will be no warm air coming from the furnace, or it will shut down completely. Faulty gas valves are a major safety concern. Contact an HVAC technician to test the valve and diagnose the source of the problem.
Some furnace gas valves are interchangeable between propane and natural gas models, depending on the furnace brand, location, type, and local building codes.
Replacing a furnace gas valve takes 30 to 60 minutes on average or up to 2 hours for hard-to-access locations like crawlspaces and small attics. This time includes HVAC diagnostic tests. Most technicians charge a minimum service fee regardless of the time spent.
Buy a furnace gas valve from Amazon, Walmart, or HVAC distributors and service companies for the widest selection. Buying directly from the manufacturer typically costs more but ensures an exact match.
Trouble turning on your gas stove? If your igniter is glowing but there is no flame, then one of two components in your range are at fault. These components are the “safety valve” and the igniter itself.
Take a clamp-on type ammeter, and attach it to the circuit to determine whether the igniter is working efficiently enough to open the safety valve. Clamp your meter onto the wire that either goes to the bake burner igniter or the bake burner safety valve. Turn on the bake function, and see what current is drawn. Typically your meter will show 2.8 – 3.0 amps for a normal current draw for a working igniter. If your meter is showing 2.7 or lower then you can assume that the igniter is not drawing enough current to actually ignite the flame, and therefore it won’t open the oven safety valve to allow the gas to enter the burner chamber. If this happens, it’s time to replace the oven burner igniter.
To test the oven safety valve, measure between the two terminals, on the valve and look for continuity. The resistance here is low, but you should be able to detect 1 to 1.5 ohms. If your model uses a dual valve, one for the broil burner and one for the bake burner, then you will have two bi-metals and again you can test them for continuity using a multimeter. They also should be very low resistance and those would indicate that they"re normal working oven safety valves.
If after performing these tests, you"ve determined that you need to replace your gas range"s oven safety valves, oven igniter, burn igniter, or safety valves? Take a look at our large selection of oven parts.

Assured Automation’s ESOV series ANSI flanged swing-check valves with fusible links are designed to provide a simple yet effective method of closing in an emergency or hazardous situation.
The valves are designed with an external spring load and held in the open position with the fire-sensitive fusible link. The valve will automatically close when the link melts due to fire or high temperatures. The external lever rotates the hinge pin which directs the disc into the flow of the liquid, gas or vapor.
You can check if the shut-off valve if you are able to slide the range out from the cabinet. If you are unable to slide the range out, we recommend consultation with a local certified technician.
Verify the main gas shut-off valve is in the open position. Most service valves are single-lever ball valves; the handle parallel to the line means gas is flowing, perpendicular means it"s cut off. (See Illustration below)
NOTE: If the range is hard piped you will not be able to slide it out from the cabinet, if it connected with a flexible supply line take care not to over-extend the supply line. The main gas valve will usually be at the end of a fixed pipe and connect to the pressure regulator with a flexible supply line. Take care not to kink or pinch this flexible pipe.
Gas valves are the devices that HVAC manufacturers and installation experts use to ensure safety and security in residential, or commercial settings. Gas valves help to control the flow of gas within a system, ensuring that everything runs according to plan. Standard solenoid valves are used for pneumatic gases; testing gas pressure at the valves is often the first thing HVAC technicians do when they are called in to check on faulty furnaces. Even though these systems are generally built to last, gas furnace valves are the parts more likely to need replacement over the life of the furnace.
For this reason, the Furnace Part Source keeps a wide assortment of valves to fit all major brands as well as systems that are not so common. Below are some of our most popular gas valves; they are offered at wholesale prices and are ready to ship on the spot.
This valve is for natural gas Carrier furnaces. It is a factory authorized part that includes the manifold and all other pieces needed for complete replacement.
Honeywell gas valves represent the brand’s dedication to quality. This universal part will fit various Honeywell gas appliances. In the case of Honeywell 24 Vac furnaces, it can handle either natural or liquefied petroleum gas when the adequate conversion kit is used. The current version of this gas valve features a compact design with a rotation radius of about four inches, thus making it easy to reposition as needed even in the tightest spaces.
This part will fit the Mighty Therm2 line of combination and natural gas boilers by Teledyne Laars. The V0079400 includes the kit for converting from propane, and it is very inexpensive when considering its durability.
Popular Emerson furnaces feature HSI and DSI electronic ignition systems. The 36J22-214 Emerson gas valve provides a one-stage fast opening system that fits into a very compact part for half-inch pipes. This is a straight-flow valve that includes a conversion kit for LP gas.
The Selectra line of modulator gas valves from Maxitrol feature unique systems for quick temperature control without the need of an actuating motor or butterfly valve. The M411 gas valve will fit half-inch and 3/8″ pipes. Both direct and indirect gas-fired appliances can be regulated with Selectra gas valves.
You need to know the signs of when your gas valve is failing. The first is if the valve is receiving an allotted number of volts to open or close — 24 is the standard –and you hear no internal clicking. That’s a sign that it may not be opening or closing.
Use an electronic gas sniffer to detect leaks. Leaks can be dangerous with the gas’s combustion properties. Assess pressure levels as well to see if the valve may not be working due to improper settings. Unclog your burner orifices and ductwork, since a lack of flow can also be the culprit.
If you have conducted all of these steps and the gas valve is still not working, then replace the valves. Never bang them with any tools to open them because that can risk an explosion.
