I received the part and it was packaged properly, it was an exact fit for our oven and resolved our issue. Once I replace the old gas safety valve with this one our oven started working again.

I’m trying to fix an old GE gas oven that never worked since we got this house in 2001. It’s a JGBS04PN1WH – this is in the XL44 product range. There is no electric ignition – this oven does not plug into an outlet at all.

The burners on top work fine. The oven pilot works fine and the pilot flame expands when the oven is turned on. The secondary pilot hits the thermocouple, but gas never flows out of the safety valve (wb19k12). I’ve tried holding the thermocouple in the pilot flame until it is red hot and gas still does not flow from the safety valve. When I disconnect the safety valve, gas will flow from the line when I turn on the oven knob.

Since I now have more than one of these safety valves, I’m considering disassembling one and just drilling it out or whatever to bypass the safety function and just using my nose. I’d much rather have a working safety valve though.
