This Safety Valve Body is found on the older version PRE-Millennium Europiccola, and it works with older Stainless Steel sphere (eventually replaced by the Teflon Valve).

Note that we offer two tools to assist with removing and reinstalling this assembly, the Steam Valve Removal Tool to reach the nut inside the boiler and the Pavoni Skinny Wrench to hold the base of the MP- or P-37 in place while loosening/tightening.

PLEASE NOTE: As with many manufacturers who are making an effort to cut their production costs, La Pavoni has stopped finishing the inside piece and the lower part of the outside piece of this assembly. All, or at least most, of the unfinished portion is hidden by the drain tube cup. They are still properly finishing the top end.

In a small workshop in Via Parini, the engineer Mr Desiderio Pavoni was working on the project of what was to become the first bar coffee machine. Replacement anti-vacuum and safety valve core to suit current model La Pavoni Lever machines. If your machine has steam coming from the safety valve the you need to replace this component.

Unless this valve be in good condition you have a potential bomb! Pressurestats were used on most of the machines made in the 1990s though some exist without them that were made far into the decade. La Pavoni machines generally slowly change part by part rather than in great leaps, except for the two group redesigns and a couple of major boiler modifications.

In the centre of the valve there is a nut, I believe it is 16mm. Remove this with a suitable tool. The outside part will then simply lift off. Inside there is a spring and either a metal ball or a mushroom shaped piece of plastic that fits into the spring.

The piece that remains attached to the boiler has the seat into which the ball or plastic piece fits. There is a hole in the centre leading into the boiler. This should be and must be clean. I have cleaned them out with small drill bits. (Be careful not to damage the seat).

If this be one with a metal ball, examine it very carefully for corrosion, and if plastic examine it for distortion. Although I am an extreme hater of plastic things, in this case the plastic mushroom is better because it makes better contact. They are interchangeable. I would recommend replacing a metal one with a plastic one, they are very inexpensive.

If there be corrosion on the valve seat you can get some valve lapping compound from an automobile repair shop and roll a ball bearing of the correct size over the valve seat to reshape it.

Reassembly: With the metal ball type you can tip the machine so the valve seat is vertical, then sit the ball on it and then assemble everything. With the plastic type it is even simpler.

If you have been using water bad enough to plug the steam release valve you have water bad enough to plug the tube to the pressure switch! Both plugged could result in catastrophic failure.
