Applications – Functional Areas Across applications, there are four main functional requirements covered by the LESER Pilot Operated Safety Valve (POSV). High Back Pressure Applications • LESER POSVs can be operated in applications with a back pressure ratio (i.e. a ratio of back pressure / set pressure) of up to 70%. Spring loaded safety valves can be typically used up to 50% of back pressure. • The absolute maximum back pressure is determined by the pressure class of the main valve outlet. Typically, LESER POSVs can be used for much higher back pressures than spring loaded safety valves....

Product Description LWN 487.71-E 01/06 Applications – Examples Compressors in Gas Main Systems Pressure relief devices in these applications must allow for high operating pressures in relation to set pressure, which are required for efficient gas transport. Additionally, compressor vibrations put through requirements on the tightness of the safety valve. LESER Series 810 and 820 POSVs offer an ideal solution for these conditions because: • they enable highest possible operating pressure to set pressure ratios facilitating maximum energy density of transport medium • they are not susceptible...

Some of LESER"s repair centers even offer on-site and in-line testing for verification of set pressure, so there is no lapse in plant production. For a complete listing or to find your local LESER Authorized Repair Center, please visit www.leser.com (All Contacts > LARC tab).

• The LESER CoV is available in two models: Type 320 Flow and Type 330 Compact. Both have an improved flow path that minimizes inlet pressure drop. • Type 320 Flow fulfills more demanding requirements (i.e. additional piping or when high-capacity SRVs are needed). • Type 330 Compact is adapted to pressure drop requirements in basic applications.

• Clearly defined resistance coefficient for each configuration allows for precise calculation of the inlet pressure drop (LESER"s CoVs ensure minimal pressure drop). • Calculations are measured and validated by an independent test lab ensuring precision, accuracy, and reliability.

For ordering and technical specification of LESER safety valves so-called “Option codes” are used. Materials, connections, accessories and documentations (certificates and inspections) can be specified quick and comfortable. Therefore the order transaction can be reduced. Option codes are mentioned in several different documents. These documents are among others: • Order confirmation and shipping documents (Fig. 1) • Master agreement • LESER Product catalogs • VALVESTAR sizing software • Inspection certificate • LESER Work standards

LESER Option codes The following listing shows the most common option codes at a glance. The option codes are sorted alphabetically. In general the LESER Option codes apply for all product groups. 4 News High Pressure Pilot Operated Safety Valves LESER has extended the range of its product group High Efficiency with a new Pilot Operated Safety Valve (POSV) for high pressures from 102 to 256 bar / 3,705 psig. Launch of series production is now complete: Pilot operated safety valves for high pressures up to class 1500 / PN 250 will start shipping in February With more than 1800 POSVs sold to date, the Pilot-Operated Safety Valve is already a success story. With this, LESER is one of the few full suppliers of pilot-operated and spring-loaded safety valves according to API 526. An expansion of the pilot operated safety valve operating range for up to 426 bar / 6,710 psig is in progress and market launch is planned for In addition to the higher permissible pressures, LESER also offers a number of innovative product configurations for industry-specific options. The new valve covers outlet flange ratings class 300 x 300 and 600 x 300 which go beyond API 526 but are often required in plants. For high pressures as well as high temperatures, LESER offers a version with a stellited disc. With this method, the sealing surfaces are especially hardened which offers a high functional tightness. Higher tightness requirements at especially low temperatures can be fulfilled with the new sealing plate made of PEEK or PTFE inside the main valve. A full nozzle design is required for industrial processes with corrosive media. LESER is one of the few suppliers offering a high pressure pilot-operated safety valve with a full nozzle with the same leadtimes as the standard semi nozzle version. Another improvement was achieved in making seals more resistant to explosive decompression (ED Design), an important factor in petrochemical and other applications with high pressures. For applications with high back pressures or special requirements for tightness up to set pressure, a pilot-operated safety valve can often be an attractive alternative to spring-loaded safety valves. The flange ratings up to 1500 x 300 and the new option codes R3A and R3B can already be ordered. About the availability of further options we will inform you by LESER News and on The pilot-operated safety valve Type 810 (left) and the new valve for high pressures up to 256 bar / 3,705 psig 4

6 General News LESER expands Level 3 of the API Alloy Concept The level system guarantees that components that are required for a respective application are designed in high alloy materials. The definition of five levels and consequently the standardization bring clear customer benefits: economic solutions, short lead times and a simplified order process by means of Option Codes. Level 1 and 2 are fully available. Components for level 3 are now standardized step by step. This level is designed for customer requirements where the inlet as well as the outlet are wetted by media and must be protected by high-alloy materials. This level will exclusively be available as version 3.1 that means as bellows version because only in this way the parts within the bonnet can be protected safely. All other levels have been, respectively will be developed in the version x.0 conventional design and x.1 bellows design. 8 General News LESER presents application-oriented solutions for FPSOs The harsh offshore environment and specific characteristics of oil and gas as a medium pose challenges to equipment on oil and gas installations. The API product group of flanged safety valves is an ideal fit for applications on board FPSOs. The valves not only meet all the requirements of API 526 such as standardized orifices and center-to-face dimensions, but their robust construction with hardened or stellited discs and stellited seats makes them especially suitable for high pressures. and power generation. The special technical requirements for this type of equipment result from the diverse media and processes on an FPSO as well as the seawater environment in which it operates. Corrosion resistant safety valves required For sea water or seawater hydrocarbon emulsions as a protected medium, valve materials must be especially resistant to corrosion in order to enable longer service intervals and to ensure the operational reliability of the safety valve. LESER pressure relief valves are available in various levels of corrosion resistance which can easily be configured according to individual application in short lead times. With the API Alloy Concept, LESER offers duplex and super-duplex materials as well as nickel-based materials like Monel, Hastelloy and Inconel in configurations for different corrosion protection levels. With regard to sour gas (H 2 S) service, valve materials must comply with the specifications of the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE) MR0175/ ISO With a wet and salty external environment, the outside shell of the valve must also be made from corrosion-resistant materials or be adequately coated. MR0175-compliant valve configurations can be ordered as well as multi-layer and epoxy coatings. ABS and US Coast Guard approval for LESER valves Pilot operated safety valves from the High Efficiency product group are also an ideal fit for FPSO applications because of their smaller size and lower weight than traditional spring-loaded safety valves. Pressure relief or safety valves are used on FPSOs to protect the different topside modules for oil and gas separation and treatment, compression, water injection FPSOs and equipment installed on board require class society approval. LESER s valves have been type approved by ABS and the US Coast Guard as well as a number of additional classification societies. In order to allow for international operation of an FPSO, spare parts and replacement valves must be available around the globe. LESER supports its clients with an international network of local storage to ensure availability with short lead times. 8

9 News General New options for NACE MR0103 and material test certificates save time and effort For sour gas applications in the oil and gas industry, LESER now offers both the familiar Option code N78 for NACE MR0175 (upstream) and also a standardised option for NACE MR0103 (downstream) in the form of Option code N77. The Option code controls both the design of the valve components in question and the necessary documentation, thus making compliance with NACE requirements faster and more economical. The provision of material test certificates and PMI tests for further components is also simplified. Please note that the material test certificates are in some cases 2.2 certificates.
