I&I Sling multi-leg bridles come standard with Crosby fittings and domestically sourced wire.  Assembled in house, all wire rope bridles are mechanically spliced to provide best fabrication practices and enhanced safety to your critical lift. Compared to Loop Back slings, mechanically spliced slings are considered to be the safer option due to the backup redundancy of the splice in the eye. This splice can keep the sling eye together in a situation where the pressed sleeve fails. All bridles fabricated at an I&I Sling branch location are constructed with heavy duty thimble eyes and latched hooks. Wire rope bridles are tagged with common angles, including 60°, 45° and 30° angles. Wire rope bridle slings are made in accordance with ASME B30.9 at a 5:1 Design Factor.

A 4 leg wire rope sling can be used for general lifting purposes. These slings may consist of an attachment directly to the load by placing loops over lugs or hooking into lifting eyes. These arrangements are designed for both unbalanced and balance loads, as well as for heavy lifts very easily distributable over four points. Whether they are used with hooks, other end attachments, or as chokers, the load capacity of four-legged bridles is affected by the rigging angle. As the leg angles are reduced, the rated capacity also reduces.

Sometimes thimbles may be added to the loops that connect the wire rope links to the oblong, offering important protection at the point of contact and prolonging sling life. Additionally, a flemish eye splice may be used with 4 leg wire rope sling arrangements as well as a carbon steel sleeve to enhance the use of ropes’ capacity.

Multi-legged bridles consisting of between two and four straight legs may be offered with thimble eyes, plain eyes, closed sockets, open sockets, turnbuckles, or shackles.

Depending on the direction and angle of the pull in the lift, the rated capacities of four leg wire rope sling arrangements can vary significantly. The type of wire rope used can also have an impact on capacities and recommended or permissible application.

The 3/8″ x 20′ – 4 leg wire rope sling with thimbled eyes allows for additional versatility over a single leg sling. Using multiple legs helps to balance your load by distributing weight more evenly.  It also helps with control during lift where multiple pick points are needed. A thimbled eye at each end is similar to a traditional eye & eye sling but fitted with protective thimbles.  A thimble protects the eye from pressure, wear, and tear, to extend the working life of the sling. Thimbled eyes are durable and great for suspending from a shackle or hook. Please note that thimbled eyes will not pass through one another. The Design Factor for wire rope slings is a 5:1 ratio, meaning the breaking strength of the sling is five times higher than the rated Working Load Limit (W.L.L). Per the Wire Rope Users Manual, a design factor is necessary to allow for conditions such as wear, abrasion, damage, and variations in loads which are not readily apparent. Although wire rope slings have a design factor, the user should never exceed the rated Working Load Limit.
