chevy power steering pulley removal tool pricelist
At the base level it works exactly as described. However it is not universal to all GM products. I specifically searched for a puller / installer to work on daughters car. It has the 3.5 L chevy V-6. The puller works fine right out of the package. Lube up the threads and the pivot point before using. That being said the problem is in the install tool. The one in the package is cut with smaller and finer threads at the end and then the remainder of the shaft is 3/8 x 16 threads. See the attached photo and you can see this. Unless I cut the finer threads off it would only grab one or two threads when I try to press on the pulley to the new pump. If I cut the finer threads off I was still concerned then that it would not allow enough threads to get me a full bite. Anyone who has ever used these tools before know that"s not enough and you can strip the threads thus making the new pump worthless. I guess this was done to try to make it universal but they failed.
We have invested millions of dollars in our own test labs and factories, so our tools will go toe-to-toe with the top professional brands. And we can sell them for a fraction of the price because we cut out the middleman and pass the savings on to you. It"s just that simple!

The belt and bearing are part of a pulley system that sends power steering fluid to your power steering system. Without it, your steering wheel would require a lot of muscle power to operate.
Don’t worry; you won’t have to wait for the arm workout to know when your power steering pump pulley system needs replacing. Because the belt and bearing interact with high heat and friction, it’s common for them to need replacing. Mechanics regularly check this when they change your oil.
When it’s time to replace your car’s power steering pump pulley system, a mechanic will do the following:Remove the serpentine belt from under the hood
The power steering system has multiple parts, so a mechanic will look for specific symptoms indicating a problem with the pump pulley specifically. These symptoms include:A grinding our whining sound when the engine is running
While repairing or replacing your power steering pump pulley system isn’t as dire as say a broken break line, it is still an important part of safely driving your vehicle and you should get it serviced as soon as you can.
Power steering helps you drive smoothly, just like Jerry steers you into the best car insurance deals. Jerry is a broker that lives in your phone. No need for long online forms or calling around.
The power steering pump is what allows you to turn the steering wheel turn effortlessly and have better control over the vehicle. The pump is driven by the turning of the engine, with the energy carried over the serpentine belt to the pump’s pulley. When the pulley wears out, the pump will not be able to rotate and you will start to lose power steering.
To fix this problem, you’ll have to take the pulley off the pump and install a new one. In this guide, we’ll go through the steps of replacing the power steering pump pulley, and whether it’s possible to do without a specialized puller.
Think about just how much force is produced by the engine, even when it’s idling. Now imagine how tightly the pulley has to be secured to the power steering pump to keep up with the belt. If there’s a minuscule amount of giving, the speed at which the pully spins and the vibrations would tear the whole system apart.
To take the pulley off, you’ll need some space to maneuver in front of the steering pump. Depending on the engine layout, check if the task can be done with the steering pump still attached to the engine, or if you’ll have to take it off. Apart from some basic tools and a power screwdriver, you’ll also need a puller and installer tool kit.
The back of the bolt has been shaped to accept a socket. You can use a manual socket wrench or an electric power wrench to unscrew the pulley by pulling it off the power steering pump.
As an electric power wrench requires more room to maneuver, you might be able to get away with taking the pulley off inside the engine bay with a ratcheting wrench. The process should only take a few minutes, excluding the time necessary to take the power steering pump off, if that’s necessary.
When the power steering pump pulley turns loose, it will create a rattling sound. You might also experience a loss of power steering, as the pump loses the power to force the hydraulic fluid. You can also press on the serpentine belt and check if it has gone loose.
Like all the other driven pullies, the power steering pulley should freely. There might be some resistance, but nothing that will stop you from spinning it by hand when the serpentine belt is off.
The power steering pump is a part of the serpentine belt system, which is rotated by the crankshaft pulley. As the belt moves, it powers all of the satellite systems, including the alternator, air conditioning compressor, water pump, radiator fan, and even supercharger.
Taking off the power steering pump pulley without the right tools is a task you should never attempt. For only a few dollars, you can get a tool fit for the job and replace the pulley yourself.
