The pump-side of the bracket features four holes to match the four-bolt mounting flange common on many 11 and 13 GPM hydraulic pumps. The bolt mounting holes are threaded. Use 5/16"-18 bolts.

The engine-side mounting hole pattern fits many horizontal and vertical-shaft engines that are 212cc (6.5hp) and smaller such as the Honda GC190 or GX-series engines. The hole pattern is also found on similar engines such as the Predator series from Harbor Freight, Loncin, Raven, and Lifan. It may also fit various engines from Kohler and Briggs & Stratton.

This bracket is not guaranteed to fit all engines. Please check the dimensions of the mounting holes on your engine and confirm that this bracket is compatible prior to purchasing.

“I have been in the industrial engine business for over 25 years and have always found Hayes products to be top quality and the very few warranty claims that I’m aware of have always been addressed promptly and fairly. Their catalog and ordering process seems most efficient and pricing is competitive. During my 14 years with M.G. Bryan we have always relied on Hayes to be part of our standard build specification for diesel powered hydraulic power units.” Customer – M.G. Bryan

This product is a Hi-Lo cast iron hydraulic gear pump with max pressures of 900 PSI for the low pressure and 3000 PSI for the high pressure pump. Typical applications are log splitters and presses, where alternating low and high pressures are required to move a cylinder.

Engine pump adapters are used to connect a hydraulic pump to a gas engine while ensuring accurate shaft alignment and enclosing the coupling. Available at Northern Hydraulics, these bell housings allow for easy versatility of adapting your hydraulic pump to a gasoline or electric motor.

Unfortunately the original old 8hp Briggs engine was very difficult to pull and very difficult to get started, requiring numerous pulls to do so. Frankly, I no longer have the stamina and strength to keep pulling it till it starts.

So I found a used Predator (Harbor Freight) 212cc 6.5hp engine for $75 on Facebook Marketplace off a broken wood chipper, and set about replacing the Briggs with this Predator motor.

First thing I discovered is that the hydraulic pump mount bolt pattern doesn’t fit the smaller Predator engine. So I researched hydraulic pump mounts for log splitters and found one in stock at Tractor Supply.

I brought it home only to realize the bolt pattern fits the Predator engine perfectly but the shaft length of the hydraulic pump and the Predator engine were too long combined to fit into this hydraulic pump mount.

Fortunately the Predator engine came off a chipper spreader and part of the chipper assembly included a four inch aluminum mount that offset the chipper assembly away from the bolt face around the engine shaft.

I was able to cut off the right thickness of this mount with a cutting wheel on an angle grinder, combined that with the new hydraulic pump mount, and it assembled perfectly. It’s the red piece next to the motor behind the black hydraulic pump mount in this photo. I had to mount the engine a little “crooked” on the engine mount because the low pressure hydraulic fluid return hose was too short otherwise.

I did put a new better spark plug in the engine, added 2 gallons of hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic reservoir, and it started right up and split the biggest knotty oak I could get my hands on.

There’s something very satisfying with never having swapped engines on a piece of equipment, managing to fabricate part of the pump mount with a simple angle grinder, then have everything work together as it was intended when you pull the rope on the engine.

new member here trying to figure out how to fix my wood splitter. i have an older model mtd wood splitter, 25 ton i believe. this was my father"s and it had been sitting up for about 6 years before i brought it to my house to start using. the rubber gasket b/w the couplers had dry rotted and i couldnt figure out what size i needed so i thought i would take them off and take them to the local small engine shop to make sure i got the right size. the coupler on the shaft for the hydraulic pump was real tight and i ended up breaking the shaft. i have found the replacement pump for this splitter and it is $600, which is a little too much for me to stomach spending on this thing. my question is this: would it be possible to buy another pump which is cheaper to replace this one with? if so, what should i look for to make sure it is compatible?

i am also going to try and take the pump apart to see if i can take it to a machine shop and have a new shaft built, but i have been told that if i mess up any of the seals then it will be worthless b/c they dont make any replacement parts for this pump. thanks for any advice
