TERRAMITE was founded in 1965 by Kelly G. Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham used a Gravely 7.6 tractor to power his patented backhoe, creating the Model 1, the world"s first compact backhoe. Between 1965 and 1972, the Model 1 was produced, and a new Model T-2 with an end-loading attachment was introduced.

The T-3, T3-15, T4, T5, T5B and T5C continue to improve in safety, durability, strength, load-carrying capacity and digging depth. In 1997, TERRAMITE introduced the T6, the largest and most powerful compact tractor loader backhoe ever built.

1999 was also the year TERRAMITE introduced new products such as the compact tractor loader backhoe series T5D, mini excavators TX15 and TX25, and sweepers TSS36 and TSS38. In June 2000, the T5D and T6 models were renamed the T7 and Model T9.

I just purchased a Terramite T5B last week. I posted an ad on the Facebook marketplace looking for one. I was contacted by a guy asking if I would be interested in one that needed a little work. Thinking that I would be able to end up saving some cash overall, I told him that I was interested.

The seller described it as having ignition problems with the engine but said that he had recently had the hydrostatic transmission completely rebuilt (Flint hydraulics, Memphis Tennessee) and that he had replaced the torquemotor (not the exact original part but said that the hydraulic shop matched it to the replacement that he used) and most of the hydraulic lines on the tractor. He told me that if I got the engine running or replaced it that it would be ready to go.

To make it short, he never really mentioned the fact that he had replaced all of those parts because the tractor had a problem about not wanting to move. When I got there to look at the tractor, he told me that "sometimes" the tractor would not move in that air would be trapped in the hydraulic system. He said that as long as you used it regularly that it was never a problem but if it sat for more than a couple of weeks that he would have problems.

Hey guys, my T5c acts funny going uphill forwards, but is fine forwards. When going uphill it acts like a mechanically driven would when slipping, It also jerks slightly. Reverse has no issues at all. I switched the hoses on the drive motor, so forward on the pedal went backwards. Even when switched, forwards still isn’t right; therefore, would you guys agree the motor is the issue? If reverse acts up with the hoses switched, I would say the pump, agree or disagree?

The system is pretty simple, the engine drives a unit which is the hydraulic pump, and forward/reverse control valve. The unit has two lines to the motor, as well as a supply, return, and supply to the other controls.

I took a picture of the pump and motor to give an idea. I also got a picture of the tag on the motor. Hopefully somebody can confirm my thoughts before I look into rebuilding or replacing the motor. Thanks!!

The machine is powered by a Kohler Command 20 hp engine that drives a hydraulic pump. It has a hydrostatic transmission with one pedal that controls both forward and reverse, says Goodman.

The hydraulic hoses were in good shape, but Goodman had to replace two couplers that were leaking a bit. He also replaced the front bearings, races and seals. It looked like someone had used an impact driver on them, he says.

Every hydraulic pump makes some noise. If all is well with a pump, then this noise stays more or less the same. However, if something goes wrong with the pump or its connected system parts, then you may start to hear sounds that you haven"t heard before.

The fluid that flows through your system needs to move at a smooth and even rate. The pump has to deliver the fluid at a specific flow for things to work.

If something prevents the fluid from achieving and maintaining its optimum flow, then your pump may start to make unusual noises. For example, you may hear a high-pitched whine coming from the pump. This can be a constant or intermittent sound.

If your pump whines constantly, then you may have a cavitation problem. Here, the pump can"t deliver its fluid at the right volume or rate. There isn"t enough fluid coming through the pump"s suction line.

In some cases, this is a sign that your pump"s motor is on the wrong setting. So, the pump itself is working at the wrong speed to create the right flow.

A hydraulic pump might get noisy if one of its parts or connections has a problem. A faulty or failing pressure control, bearing, valve, seal, or coupling can make a noise you haven"t heard before.

In some cases, you may hear vibrating clunks as your pump works if you have a problem with a connecting pipe. A loose seal or connector might allow the pipe to move. It then passes vibrations along to the pump itself.

While some noise problems are easy to fix, some are a sign that your pump is close to the end of its working life. Sometimes, this is due to natural wear, usage, and age. However, in some cases, minor problems cause more widespread damage if you don"t fix them quickly.

For example, if you"ve had cavitation problems for a while, then your system may not have been getting the lubrication it needs; it may have overheated regularly. Even if you fix the cavitation issue, you may be left with a damaged pump that needs a more significant repair, rebuild, or replacement.

So, while new sounds or an increase in operating noise don"t necessarily mean that you have a serious pump problem, you should investigate any unusual noise. Typically, this is a sign that something isn"t working right.

A minor problem in your system could go on to cause significant damage. For an expert diagnosis, contact Quad Fluid Dynamics, Inc. Ourhydraulic pump repair and rebuild servicewill get your pump running smoothly and efficiently again.
