lordco mission parts manufacturer
Founders Roy Lord and Ed Coates, the “Lord” and “co” in Lordco Auto Parts, opened the door to their first auto parts location in 1974, in Maple Ridge, British Columbia (BC), Canada, and quickly established a reputation within the community for selling reputable auto parts and for offering exceptional customer service. As their reputation grew within the industry, so did the number of Lordco locations throughout the province.
In 1980, Ed bought Roy’s stake in the business and expanded its presence in BC. Sadly, Ed passed away in 2014. To honour his legacy, Ed’s wife, Marlyn, and children, Samantha, Ian, Sarah, and Candace, founded the Ed Coates Memorial Foundation. His family continues to grow the business according to Ed"s values and principles as members of Lordco Auto Part"s Executive Leadership Team.

If you have a classic car like me, you know that it can be less-than-convenient to find parts for your vehicle – parts manufacturers don’t exactly push out a lot of new parts for cars made in 1960.
I live in the Fraser Valley (Chilliwack specifically). Here are some places that I buy classic car parts. Whether it’s rear end differentials, brakes, performance parts, or upholstery – you should be able to find almost anything using these channels.
They don’t necessarily have parts to rebuild the engine itself, but most things that go ON the engine. They also have brake and suspension parts for much older model cars – at least as far back to the late 50’s if I recall correctly.
I use NAPA for most older vehicles, as well as newer vehicles. They’re great if you want to replace the stock parts of your vehicle with working parts, but don’t want to upgrade to “performance” parts.
A 3rd parts supplier I use is Fortin’s. They are the middle ground between stock and high performance parts. Where they really excel though, is their engine division. Fortin’s machine shop is excellent – if a motor can be saved, they’re the ones who can save it.
I had a customer who was quoted over $10,000 on parts by a hot rod shop for their classic. After an order from Year One, they were able to get the same parts delivered to Ship Happens (across the border) for a total cost of only $2,500. That’s a pretty massive savings.
All the mainline auto wreckers are interconnected. If you call one of the wreckers, they can search all auto wreckers in Canada to see if your parts are available anywhere.
If you ever need to get your parts re-chromed, I go down to the states. Most shops that do re-chroming down there are half of the money you’d pay in Canada.
The hardest part about this job is just learning about what parts are what, and where they are stored in the back room. That being said, there are always people around who know where to find things, so this really isn"t much of an issue anyways.
Otherwise, you"ll be driving around town to shops and customer"s homes, as far as Oyster River or Parksville, on a daily basis. Not much interaction with the customers either, pretty much all of them are content with you just dropping off the parts and receipt and driving off without a word. The cars all have a tablet that has a google maps style GPS route that is pre-programmed before every trip, so there is no worrying about not knowing where you are going.
