rat king mission parts quotation

Similar to many of Destiny 2"s Exotics, the Rat King requires you to complete a special quest, involving several steps - some of which hidden behind some pretty obscure riddles.

It"s worth it though, as the Rat King has some pretty awesome perks: an increase in damage, which stacks up to six times, depending on the number of other allies that have the weapon equipped nearby; and a second or two of invisibility, granted every time you reload immediately after getting a kill with the weapon.

Complete the quest Enemy of my Enemy - it"s a blue quest marker you"ll find in the world and on your map, which ends in you being given the option to kill or save an enemy captain. Either way, when you complete it, you"ll get the Rat King"s Crew item. The item takes up a Kinetic Weapon slot, but can"t be used as one.

On the Rat King"s Crew you"ll find a strange riddle. This is, in fact, the first of four riddles, and you"ll need to solve them, and then complete their respective tasks, one at a time to get the weapon itself. Read on for detailed solutions to these in the section below!

The main sticking point comes from figuring out what the four Rat King riddle solutions are, and then there"s the matter of actually completing the final one, which is most definitely not easy. Here"s a handy video from YouTuber KackisHD, with our full written description of how to do it, in detail, below!

Destiny 2’sRat King Exotic (yellow) weapon is one of the most interesting guns in the game. Getting your hands on the sidearm requires a fair bit of riddle solving and enemy slaying.

Before you start your quest to get the Rat King exotic sidearm in Destiny 2, you’ll need to handle some basic requirements. From there, you’ll unlock the starting quest for the Rat King and its subsequent quests.

Once you beat that mission, you’ll receive the Rat King’s Crew item, which appears in your kinetic weapon slot. When you hover over the item, you’ll see a small riddle and an objective that must be completed. Don’t be fooled. Even if you complete this riddle, there will still be three more to go.

Before you start working on your riddles, keep in mind that to complete them, you must either complete these riddles with a teammate who also has the Rat King’s Crew item or with a teammate who has the Rat King gun already. They must also have it equipped the entire time.

To unlock the Rat King in Destiny 2, you’ll need to solve some riddles. These riddles aren’t that hard to solve, but they require a few steps to complete them. Here are their solutions.

“The Rat King"s Crew / Runs to and fro / Good girls and boys / Know where to go / Pick up your toys and darn your socks / On errands of woe, on errands we walk.” — Old Children’s Rhyme

To solve this riddle, simply partner up with another player and complete three patrols. You can do any three you like, but the quickest way to handle this is on Titan, the same place you get the Rat King’s Crew item.

“The Rat King’s Crew / Goes arm in arm / To fight as one / To do no harm / So have your fun and run outside / Rally the flag and we’ll never die.” — Old Children’s Rhyme

“The Rat King’s Crew / Goes four and four / With good good fights / They learn to score / Then three as one they stand upright / Return from past the wall and wanting more.” — Old Children’s Rhyme

The third puzzle for the Rat King is just as straightforward as the others. Get together with a friend and dive into the Crucible. After completing two matches, this riddle will be complete.

“The Rat King’s Crew / Stands three as one / They see Night’s fall / And fear it none / But watch the clock as you scale the wall / Lest five remain hope comes for none.” — Old Children’s Rhyme

The Rat King’s final puzzle, unlike the others, is not easy. To solve this one, you must complete the Nightfall strike with five minutes left on the clock. Don’t get upset if this takes you several tries.

Like every other Destiny 2 Exotic (yellow) item, the Rat King has some unique aspects. Its most interesting is its main trait, Rat Pack, which allows the gun to become stronger when nearby allies also have it equipped. This can stack up to six times, so if you run a raid, like Destiny 2’s Leviathan and everyone is packing the Rat King, you’ll all get a boost when you’re near one another.

The Ratking (NPC) is an NPC found in the Nilgarf Sewers. At level 20, provides a 5-part quest of the same name which when completed awards the player with the Ratking Bucket.

The Ratking provides an arduous quest for the player to complete if accepted. The quest is split into 5 parts, each harder than the last. The quest may also prove to be more difficult depending on one"s luck: four out of the five parts require Drops, which may become easier or harder if the player is fortunate or not.

"For your next task... BRING ME THEIR HEADS! Bring me 3 Ratty Heads. They don"t let dem go that often, so you"ll have to keep on killing dem until they do."

"Y.. YOU BROUGHT ME 22 RATTY HEADS? BURP I.. I don"t know what to say. You... you deserve to be King, I cann"t outmatch you. T..t..take my bucket hat..."

For the rat king the trick is to build towers at the start. Start with 3 towers around your castle and each close to a different sewer. That will change a lot your game in this map. Then follow with the market place and a guild and upgrade the towers. With towers well placed this map is much more easy.

Wolten Grafe says "Hail, noble Rainbowdash. Remember to spread the words of [Karana] throughout the faraway lands on which you shall tread. We of the Temple of Thunder are looking for new members - good people who [wish to join our cause]. Let the call go out!"

Wolten Grafe says "That IS good news! If you walk the righteous path of the Rainkeeper, Karana, then you are truly noble. I have need of someone like that. I must find someone to perform a [dangerous mission] or perhaps you would rather [seek out the Rat King] or [crush the undead]?"

Wolten Grafe says "Under this city lie the catacombs of Qeynos. Somewhere down there lurks the Rat King. None have truly seen him, but we know of him. It is he who plagues us with the recent infestation of rats. Why? Who knows? We need a brave member to [hunt the Rat King]."

Wolten Grafe says "You are truly brave, young knight. Go to the catacombs. Find the Rat King. Bring me his head as proof of your noble deed. He must be stopped. Beware of his allies. May Karana watch over you."

Wolten Grafe says "We have finally destroyed the Rat King. You have performed a great service to Qeynos. Here is a small reward. Please continue with the work of the Rainkeeper."

rat king mission parts quotation

The most important task for any Destiny player is raising their Power level, which is the combined level of equipped weapons and armour. There’s a sense of unspoken competition to get the rarest and finest-looking gear, with many devoting all of their time to looking the best.

The original Destiny included exotic weapons and armour that could only be obtained by fulfilling certain objectives, known to be difficult and almost impossible to complete.Destiny 2is no different and many players have already unearthed the first one – a sidearm weapon known as Rat King. Obtaining the coveted gun isn’t easy but if you’re interested in picking it up and becoming the envy of your friends, here’s how to do it.

Once you’ve beaten all of the story missions and reached the maximum level of 20, the "Enemy of the Enemy" side quest will appear on the planet Titan. Upon completion, you’ll be rewarded with the "Rat King’s Crew" item which takes up a space in your Kinetic weapon slot, although it isn’t a useable weapon just yet.

Once you view the Rat King’s Crew item in your inventory, a set of four riddles will appear, which you’ll need to solve whilst paired up with at least one other player in a Fireteam. Once all four riddles have been solved, Rat King’s Crew will morph into the coveted exotic sidearm weapon.

Riddle 1: “The Rat King’s Crew / Runs to and fro / Good girls and boys / Know where to go / Pick up your toys and darn your socks / on errands of woe, on errands we walk”

In order to solve the first of the four mind-boggling Rat King riddles, simply complete three patrols with your Fireteam. If you haven’t unlocked the ability to do them yet, travel to the European Dead Zone and complete the mission "Patrol" to gain access. Once unlocked, you can pick up patrols from flashing green beacons scattered throughout the many planets.

Riddle 2: “The Rat Kind’s Crew / Goes Arm in arm / To fight as one / To do no harm / So have your fun and run outside / Rally the flag and we’ll never die”

Riddle 3: “The Rat King’s Crew / Goes four and four / With good good fights / They learn to score /Then three as one they stand upright / Return from past the wall and wanting more”

Riddle 4: “The Rat King’s Crew / Stands three as one / They see Night’s fall / And fear it none / But watch the clock as you scale the wall / Lest five remain hope comes for none”

Riddle number four cranks up the difficulty notch and is by far the most frustrating part to solve. This time, you and your Fireteam need to successfully beat the weekly Nightfall strike with at least five minutes left on the clock. If you’ve yet to unlock Nightfalls, complete two normal strikes in the strike playlist and then level up your Power level to 240. Beating the weekly Nightfall strike is a challenge in itself so having to complete it with at least five minutes remaining is no easy task but we believe in you, Guardian.

rat king mission parts quotation

Intentional Mess Making: The sapient rats deliberately mess up towns by chewing on things, urinating everywhere, etc., so that Maurice can play Pied Piper and pretend to get rid of them, thereby making money.

Klingon Promotion: Evidently was the way the rats formerly got their leaders (before gaining intelligence); at one point Hamnpork rears up ready for an old-style challenge from Darktan, then gets confused when none is forthcoming.

Laxative Prank: Malicia puts laxative powder in the Rat Catchers" tea, then tells them they"ve been poisoned and holds the antidote hostage until they do as she says. The "antidote" is laxative powder too.

Maybe Ever After: Keith and Malicia agree to be friends at the end and don"t engage in any explicit romance, but Malicia is uncharacteristically tongue-tied when asking Keith to stay in Bad Blintz and he is at least partially thinking of her when considering that he might have a future there.

Mercy Kill: Darktan"s order that the Clan do this for a poisoned keekee shocks many of them. Not because they don"t agree that the poor thing needs to be put out of its misery, but because Darktan wants them to put it into a trap as a safe alternative to biting a rat with poison in its blood.

Monster Protection Racket:The educated rodents make themselves known and the stupid-looking kid gets paid to lead them out of town and into the nearest river. People never check whether the rats are good swimmers...

The Ratcatchers themselves have a variant going, extorting money from the town to "get rid of" a plague of rats that don"t exist, except in their own rat-breeding cages. Of course, they"re pawns of the Rat King.

No Name Given: The Rat Catchers are always referred to as Rat Catcher 1 and 2, though their names are mentioned in passing. Also Keith is only "the stupid-looking kid" for the first few chapters because none of the other characters bothered to learn his name.

"Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: Some details about rats, mentioned in the author"s notes: he says he had to leave out some stuff that was too implausible for fiction.

Sardines is a milder example; the rats generally accept that he"s a talented and intelligent rat, but he spends so much time goofing around that they tend to underestimate him. Darktan is amazed at how wily he really can be.

Oblivious Guilt Slinging: Maurice swears he will never eat prey that can talk, and everyone reassures him they know he won"t, but knows he learned to speak by eating one of the intelligent rats (who had a speech impediment).

Pardon My Klingon: The Clan and Maurice swear in Rat and Cat respectively. Apparently as a result of spending so much time with the Clan, Keith (the stupid-looking kid) also swears in Rat.

Pointy-Haired Boss: Poor Hamnpork didn"t take the shift to sentience particularly well, being fairly old at the time, and is now reduced to being a figurehead for Peaches and Darktan. However, Hamnpork seems to be well aware of this, and though he"s thoroughly unhappy about it, frequently complaining about the changes in lifestyle and attitude, is quietly (if somewhat grudgingly) grooming Darktan as his successor. Also, while Hamnpork might not be much of a peacetime leader, he is a highly competent scrapper who took leadership and kept it when Asskicking Leads to Leadership was in full effect, and a surprisingly decent tactician.

Rat King: The true villain of the story. Spider, so-called because it"s made from eight young rats (eight being a number of great occult significance on the Discworld), has psychic powers so potent it can not only control rats and see anything they can see, but also influence human behaviour. It can even strip away the magical awareness given to the protagonist rats and cat, making them ordinary creatures. Horribly, making a Rat King is part of the qualification for mastery in the Ratcatchers Guild, suggesting that there are at least potentially many of these things across the Disc - though it"s hinted that this one is unusual in that it achieved sentience, let alone Psychic Powers.

"Reason You Suck" Speech: Dangerous Beans gives a great one to Spider, pointing out that while Spider can think for his rat subjects, his plans for them show that he has never once tried to think of them.

Resourceful Rodent: The rats have human-level intelligence and can use tools. With a cat and a boy, they run a con that involves recreating The Pied Piper of Hamelin to make money. The rats are smart enough to form a dedicated "bomb disposal squad" that scouts ahead and deactivates rat traps.

Malicia: Of course, it would be more... satisfying if we were four childrenand a dog.Confronting Spider the Rat King is so horrifying, it robs some of the Clan of their speech and sentience. This is also the fate of Ginger, a talking cat in Tash.

Nourishing"s desperate pleas for Darktan to wake up, she"s gotten him out of the trap, are reminiscent of Bigwig"s rescue from a snare in Waif Prophet.

When the rats get philosophical about what happens after you die, one rat is being expressively sceptical and doubting everything. His name turns out to be Tomato, which makes him a Doubting Tom.

Shut Up, Hannibal!: Spider offers to help Dangerous Beans protect his swarm and get revenge on the humans. Beans sees right away that Spider is just a vindictive monster with delusions of grandeur who sees other rats as his pawns, and he gently but firmly rejects Spider"s offer.

Squirrels in My Pants: The rats deal with a highwayman who tries to rob their coach in the first chapter by scuttling up inside his pants. The bandit surrenders immediately.

Stealth Pun: The Educated Rodents struggle with the common rat practice of eating their dead as they begin to develop a sense of religion and ethics and finally abandon it once and for all in favor of burying the dead when Hamnpork dies. Not eating ham and pork is indeed a major dietary restriction in many religions.

Sugar Bowl: The Mr. Bunnsy books portray a world like this. The rats (particularly Dangerous Beans) treat the books as gospel, Malicia treats them as garbage.

Used positively at the end: rather than the humans simply accepting the rats and going into a Happily Ever After ending, the rats (with Maurice as their agent) have to broker a complex set of contracts, peace treaties and amendments to the town charter to ensure that this human-rodent cooperation is going to

Sympathetic Murder Backstory: Maurice once ate a talking rat. However, he was only a dumb animal at the time, had no way of knowing until he gained his intelligence from said meal, and none of the Clan hold it against him when they find out - if anything, their reaction is more of a collective shrug. The guilt is shown to be why he"s so careful about what he eats.

The Man They Couldn"t Hang: Darktan is the rat equivalent after surviving a trap. His resulting horrible scar awes the other rats and smooths out the succession of power.

This Is Reality: After they get captured by the rat catchers, Keith tells Malicia off for insisting on assuming that life is like the kind of stories where the plucky kid hero is never really hurt and there"s always a way out of any difficulty.

Went to the Great X in the Sky: Some of the rats have a tentative belief that on death the Bone Rat sends them to be with the Big Rat Deep Under the Ground.

rat king mission parts quotation

This book was outstanding! The author, Lee Battersby should be proud to have written such an amazing masterpiece of imagination, sarcasm and fantastic inventiveness. The tale kept my interest from start to fnish without a hitch. Battersby is an author to watch for great things to come. The narrator sets the tone for the novel, which is sarcastic - just like real life, or at least like the life of my friend and I. I enjoyed this book immensely. No matter what you thought was going to happen, you were wrong. The author took you on a quest wth Marius in the driver"s seat to places unknown, peopled by exotic characters who you would never have guessed existed along the normal course of existance. What a ride!

THE PLOT: Marius and his apprentice Gerd are scavenging a battlefield after a battle, when they come upon the dead King of Scorby. Marius takes his crown and puts it in his shirt. A dead man mistaking Marius for the King, takes Marius down to the land of the dead after Gerd has been killed by a guard. The dead want to make Marius their King. When Marius shows them that they"ve made a mistake, they send him on a mission to find the dead a King which is where our story really starts rolling. There are: travel, sea voyages, murders, sharks attacks, cannibalism, prostitutes shocked, crooked poker games, bandits, dead men walking, skeletons speaking, plans in action, natives, mourning, Kings swimming with their horses, prisoners executed, Captains extorting, nobles cheating and Kingly bones escaping as well as so much more. This plot is sepentine in its" twists and turns. You will never know what will happen next. The plot is literally built, layer by layer - like a faux finish, at the end you have a beautiful result, but in the middle, you"re not sure how it"s going to turn out. That is exactly how this book is. Will Marius get the dead their King? Will they dismember him and send him to some Under Hell if he does not? Read the book and find out! I give this plot a 10/10

THE CHARACTERIZATION: The characterization was so fantastic it was a masterwork all by itself. As the narrator, we get to see all the characterization through Marius" eyes, which makes it that more fun to have each character described. His sarcastic wit is so polished that with few words he can sum up another character and you know just the type of person he is describing down to his dress, facial features, behaviours, flaws and everthing else. Marius himself is fully three dimensional and human and as a character, changes the most over the course of the novel than any other character - making a full 360 degree turn about in ideals, morals and prinicles, though the sarcasm remains intact - Thank God! There was no, one character that Batterby did not pay loving attention to through Marius" description which made the book a very rich reading experience. As a narrator, Marius added not only color, but his observations were spot on, that he raised the level of the book"s tone from simply a 4 star book to a 5 star book, easily. He made all the difference. Marius made the book, simply put. If we weren"t in Marius" brain throughout the book, the book would not have been the same. He was not only my favorite character in the novel, he is one of my favorite characters of all time. For characterization, I give this novel, a 10/10.

THE DIALOGUE: The Dialogue in this book was at one time hilarious, at an other is was sarcastic, at others, it was formal, depending on if a King were present. The dialogue fit the situation. As Marius took on and put off different faces and personalitites to fit different situations, his dialogue matched his faces. Some were humorous in the extreme. Other were obsequious. Other still were pompous. Whatever fit the bill. All were credible. As an example, he is knocking on coffins, to find a King to take back to the dead, but he must find one that is not ashes, so he knocks on each coffin he says " Hello you Majesty. Are you in there?" in his most servile voice. The responses are quite hysterical, as he got more than one. For Dialogue, I give this novel a 10/10

THE GORE SCORE: The Gore Score for this novel was not really difficult. While there are people dying and limbs and other bits flying, the focus in not on blood and guts at all. The most bloody part was at the front of the book when they are playing corpse-rats, picking over bodies on the battlefield, finding something that they can sell after the battle is over. For the Gore Score, I give this novel a 5/10.

THE IMAGERY: The Imagery in the book is quite excellent. As Marius and Gerd travel different continents - either together or separately, they are in what is likely to be somewhere analagous to our Middle Ages. The images that represent this time, the people and their clothing, the dress, and their housing is wonderfully described. There is one example where a dead King has combined with his dead horse on the bottom of the sea - they now share characteristics that make them both the same. Now picture this in you head. The King lets out a big Neigh and shakes his head underwater. He shakes his boney tail and gallops off down onto a sandy stretch of sea bottom, while Marius looks on and shakes his head thinking "How am I going to sell this guy as King of the Dead?" This is one of the images that just tickled me. For imagery, I give this novel 9/10.

THE ENDING: The ending of the book came as a big surprise to me. Never would I have guessed the ending in a month of Sundays. I thought he had it hammered halfway though the book, then it was just the case of getting the King back, but I was wrong. It wasn"t the other King either. WOW! Who could believe it? Will it be any of them? Marius has to get one of them to work or his future is bleak. What will happen? Will Gerd actually help him? For the ending of the novel, I give it a 10/10.

THE UPSHOT: The upshot of this novel is that if I could give it 6 stars, I would do it in a heartbeat. This novel was outrageous, hysterical, imaginative, inventive and outstanding all mixed up into a masterwork of a novel. I recommend it to everyone who reads English on the planet. Yes, it is that good. Even if you don"t like fantasy, the human interest story that runs through the book is interesting enough to hold you attention, while you forget about the reanimated bodies and the other things. Sideline them, don"t make them the main focus - focus instead on Marius and his view of the world. Think of it as a historical novel with some quirks. That way when you are reading it, just think that the fantastical parts are things that just happened during that time and no longer happen now. That should get you through the novel in one piece. This novel is definitely worth the price of admission, and I would recommend to all of my friends and relatives along with everyone who has a pulse who reads English and any other language it will be translated into - just buy the book and read it. It is well worth it. Trust me....

rat king mission parts quotation

The odd Rat King Exotic Sidearm is a great example of this. For such a small weapon, this gun packs some serious firepower when in a team of other Guardians wielding it. Earning this weapon requires some work, though. In this guide, we will go over why you should obtain Rat King and how to earn this Exotic Sidearm and its Exotic Catalyst.

Rat King is an Exotic Sidearm that becomes stronger the more Guardians use Rat King near you. By itself, it falls behind similar Legendary Sidearms. In a group, though, Rat King is incredible.

Do not let its small size fool you. It starts with a rate of fire of 300 rounds per minute, ramping up as more players use this gun. The damage will ramp up as well, rivaling certain Special weapons when you reach 6 stacks. Those who coordinate buffs and debuffs can even take on Raid bosses with this gun. For those who play solo, this gun also turns you invisible after getting a kill and immediately reloading. If you haven"t obtained Rat King or used it since the Sidearm buffs from Season of Dawn, get this weapon a try.

You should now have an item in your Quests tab that provides a riddle. Before you continue on your Rat King journey, find a teammate that has the gun.

Fireteam members are required for you to progress this quest. As the gun revolves around having allies that use it, the quest follows the same principle. This member must have Rat King for you to continue the quest. If you don"t have any friends with this gun, look for a group using an LFG site or Discord server.

Now that you have a teammate, you can begin the riddle solving. For the first riddle, you will need to complete Patrol missions on any planet you like.

What matters is that you complete three Patrols with a fireteam member that is using Rat King. The Patrols themselves don"t matter. For fast results, complete kill-based Patrols. These are denoted with a triangle icon or 5 diamonds. Once you finish three Patrols, you will be given a new riddle.

Public Events are the key to this next riddle. With a teammate with Rat King by your side, you must complete two Public Events. These events don"t have to be Heroic for completions to count.

Riddle 3 is simply asking you to complete two games of Crucible with a fireteam member wielding Rat King. These games can come from any playlist, and you do not need to win these two games to progress this step. Momentum Control and Mayhem go by the fastest, but Rumble is a solid alternative if either mode is not active.

All you need to do is complete any Nightfall with a teammate that is using, you guessed it, Rat King. Nightfalls no longer have time restrictions so having to finish a mission with 5 minutes left isn"t possible. It also does not have to be The Arms Dealer Nightfall like it was at launch. Simply boot up any Nightfall you like on any difficulty and finish it.

Congratulations, you now have Rat King! You might be wondering how to obtain its Exotic Catalyst since that slot remains empty. This part relies on much more RNG than previous steps.

To obtain the Catalyst, you need to complete Strikes or Nightfalls. The chest at the end of the mission has a small chance of dropping this Catalyst. Once you have it, apply it to your gun and find a team that has Rat King. You"ll need fireteam members to kill enemies with Rat King to progress this, but it is rather easy to complete. Your reward is a new perk that grants health when you turn invisible from reloading Rat King on top of generating Orbs of Light on multikills.
