Mud motors offer the proven way to get acceptable penetration rates when drilling in hard formations and rock. The mud pump has to supply the mud motor, but also has to flush the cuttings to the surface for disposal. The table below shows typical flow rates for popular size mud motors. Be sure to allow enough extra mud flow to flood the bore. American Auger’s mud pumps can be used with any brand or size of the directional drill.

In 1970, American Augers began manufacturing in a small rented garage outside of Wooster, OH, with the singular commitment to manufacture and distribute trenchless technology equipment. Our first product was an auger boring machine, and, by 1987, the Company"s product offering expanded into directional drills and related mud/fluid systems. Today, American Augers, Inc is the largest manufacturer of auger boring machines and mid-size and maxi-rig directional drills in the world, as well as a significant player in the small rig market.
Smaller directional drills are the newest part of the Company"s product line. American Augers leveraged its expertise in manufacturing large drills to design and produce unique, innovative smaller drills. These compact drills consist of rigs with pulling power (thrust/pullback) ranging from as little as 10,000 lbs. up to 100,000 lbs. Each of these smaller drills also carry the "River Rig Pedigree," which means that the same powerful features and solid durability that are found on our largest river crossing drills are also available on our smaller models.
Bentonite, drilling fluid and mud are all interchangeable terms, and, when properly used, they mean successful completion of the job. American Augers produces the broadest line of mud pumps, mixers and cleaning systems in the industry. Configurations range from small skid-mounted units to large trailer-based machines. American Augers also offers several mud pump units for use in auger boring or pipe jacking.
Our products have many innovations that come from our experience and expertise in the auger boring and directional drilling markets. We were the first manufacturer to use rack-and-pinion systems instead of chain drives for our carriage drive systems. American Augers conceived and designed the innovative Es! Lok® exit-side lockout system that prevents the inadvertent movement of the drill pipe or tooling.
Innovations like these have won American Augers repeated recognition for both our products and our quality from several national trade magazines. During the last 6 years, American Augers has had three different products named to Construction Equipment Magazine"s Annual Top 100 New Products list.
Customers will always get better value from American Augers. Better value for a customer means more power, more productivity and greater ease of use. Our products are only part of the reason whyAmerican Augers is the largest manufacturer of exclusively trenchless equipment in North America. From product to people and from innovation to customer support, it is a story no other manufacturer can match.
