Continental Emsco Drilling Products, Inc., which consisted of Emsco drilling machinery and Wilson mobile rigs, was purchased by National-Oilwell, Inc on July 7, 1999. To our knowledge, no pumps have been manufactured and sold under the Emsco brand name since National-Oilwell acquired them.
Fairbanks Morse pumps are currently manufactured in Kansas City, Kansas. Fairbanks Morse is a division of Pentair ever since August, 1997 when Pentair purchased the General Signal Pump Group.
Gaso pumps are manufactured by National Oilwell Varco. Gaso was acquired as "Wheatley Gaso" by National-Oilwell in the year 2000. At the time, Wheatley Gaso was owned by Halliburton.
Skytop Brewster pumps are no longer available as new pumps. Skytop Brewster(Cnsld Gold), a unit of Hansen PLC"s Consolidated Gold Fields subsidiary, was acquired while in bankruptcy by National-Oilwell, Inc. in November, 1999.
Mud Pumps come in both electric and gas / diesel engine drive along with air motors. Most of these pumps for mud, trash and sludge or other high solids content liquid dewatering, honey wagon and pumper trucks. Slurry and mud pumps are often diaphragm type pumps but also include centrifugal trash and submersible non-clog styles.
WARNING: Do not use in explosive atmosphere or for pumping volatile flammable liquids. Do not throttle or restrict the discharge. Recommend short lengths of discharge hose since a diaphragm mud pump is a positive displacement type and they are not built with relief valves.

The X-series mud pump type PD X-3.004 SG HDD manufactured by PRIME DRILLING impresses with its robust and low-wear design. The 7-fold bearing mounted drive shaft, which is equipped with 3 eccentric wheels, replaces the conventional crankshaft. Due to the revolution of these shafts and their maximum 230 rotations per minute operational wear of rubbers and liners are reduced to a minimum.
The pump is driven by a 470 kW CAT engine. This type of mud pump is exclusively manufactured in our Wenden plant, i.e. „made in Germany“. Its electronic gearshift in combination with eccentric wheels used instead of a crankshaft make it a high- power but low- maintenance product. All valves and plungers also comply with API standards.
Our 20,000 sq.m production facility in China has designed and manufactured solely quality and specialty pumps for oil exploration and refinery sin1992
The X-series mud pump type PD X-1.000 HD manufactured by PRIME DRILLING impresses with its robust and low-wear design. The 7-fold bearing mounted drive shaft, which is equipped with 3 eccentric wheels, replaces the conventional crankshaft. Due to the revolution of these shafts and their maximum 235 rotations per minute operational wear is reduced to a minimum.
The use of most modern hydraulic components enable continuous control of the shaft speed and the thus generated linear speed of pistons or rather the flow rate of the drilling fluid by the speed of the hydraulic motor. The pump has a compact design and is installed into a silenced 20 ft. container. The integrated skid system allows to pull the pump out of the container fast and easily for service and maintenance. The container is designed as such to enable fast and easy transport via a twist-lock system.

We supply unitized mud pump packages driven by DC or AC electric motors or diesel engines for electric and mechanical drilling rigs. The client can select DC or AC motors and diesel engine brands such as Caterpillar, Detroit, Cummins or others. Our unitized mud pump packages including everything on the skid and usually they are ready to work at delivery.
Drilling fluid, also referred to as drilling mud, is pumped down wellbores during the boring process and has many benefits for both the machinery and the well itself. Improvements in fluid compositions and more efficient designs have led to the creation of deeper and more challenging wells.
Drilling mud aids the boring process by cleaning cuttings from drill bits, cooling, lubricating, controlling pressure, delivering buoyancy, and stabilising exposed rock. Cuttings are created during the drilling process; with cuttings not posing a problem until the work stops, typically due to drill bit replacement.
If such fluid is not pumped during downtime, then cuttings will fill the well again, with the fluid acting to keep parts in suspension preventing this from happening. Another benefit of drilling fluid is the control of pressure in the well, the addition of weighing agents raise its density and lead to an increase in pressure on the well walls. Special additives stop the liquid from being absorbed by the rock in the well, this stabilises the rock by ensuring the pores do not become clogged.
Fluids are either oil, water or synthetic based and each type provides different benefits depending on the type of rock. For example, oil-based fluids are better with saltier rock while water-based fluids have less of an environmental impact, which is particularly important when performing offshore drilling. The engineer must select the best liquid type and carefully balance the additives to either minimise friction, add more buoyancy or account for any other requirement.
As drilling muds provide so many benefits and are such a necessity for the process, it is vital that the pump be reliable while also being capable of producing the required pressure and handling the concentration of sand and silt. Due to the remote locations for drilling, electrically is quite often not available and therefore it is common for the pump to be fitted with a hydraulic motor that is powered by the drilling rig itself.
A UK based drilling company was in the process of modernising their fleet and needed a new recirculating pump for one of their rigs. They use a water-based drilling mud containing sand and silt, their requirement was for a hydraulic powered progressive cavity pump capable of providing 15m³/hr at 12 bar.
After close discussions and ascertaining mud viscosity and total operating hours, we selected our FN 40K2 progressive cavity pump operating at 150RPM. This slow speed will protect the pump from premature wear against the abrasive nature of the fluid. The pump is expected to operate around 8 hours a day so selecting the appropriate speed is extremely important to ensure the maximum lifespan for the pump.
Eccentric screw pumps are perfect for this application due to their solid handling capabilities, providing a constant volume proportional to speed and being of positive displacement design. This means as the amount of drilling fluid increases, pump speed can be increased. Furthermore, should the system become clogged the unit will generate pressures up to 12 bar to clear blockages.
