STANDARD PLATE TYPE VALVEThe Standard Plate Type Valve is extremely durable to its premium forged alloy steel body and its unique design.It has been proven by more than 50 years of oilfield service. To prevent dry pistons and liners at startup, thevalve features a patented double angle polyurethane insert that maintains cylinder priming during pump shut-down. The precise control of insert pre-load is accomplished with a flat ground insert retaining plate and splitretainers. The insert can be replaced in the field with minimum down time. This valve is designed to fit pumps inthe oilfield and is used with Baker SPD seats. A-LINE DUPLEX PISTON RODResisting abrasives, corrosion, fatigue, and high loads better than any piston rod in the oilfield, this rod isactually a heat treated alloy steel bar fuse coated with a layer of nickel chrome boron. This is a technique firstintroduced to the industry by Reed American. Featuring a precision ground OD, and numerically controlledmachining of the ends to tighter than authorized API specifications, this rod fits all pumps in the field. The rod"sexcellent fatigue resistance is accentuated by a fully interchangeable, but exclusive, modified thread rootdesign.

A-LINE DUPLEX ROD PACKINGWithstanding the highest pump pressures, this packing performs best under all drilling conditions. The packing"ssemi-adjustable design prevents it from collapsing and allows it to resist high pressure extrusion. This packing

A-LINE LINERS FOR TRIPLEX AND DUPLEX PUMPS The A-Line designation of these liners indicate unmatched perfor- mance and durability in most severe drilling conditions. Constructed to a computer designed shrink fit of a high chrome/iron or bimetal sleeve into a forged steel hull, the liners offer extreme abra- sion, resistance, hardness, and corrosion resistance. These liners can withstand the highest hoop stresses since their hulls are made of high- grade carbon steel forging. All Baker SPD standard liners are manu- A-Line Liners for Triplex and Duplex Pumps factured with the “HP” lip design to prevent inner sleeve slippage. Sleeves are 26% chrome steel heat treated to RC62 to 66 hardness. The micro-finish honed ID helps assure piston durability, yet it is not so smooth as to produce hydroplaning. The OD is numerically con- trolled, machined precisely to ensure continually correct registers and sealing surfaces to the pump bore and face. Liner bore tolerances, tighter than the API specifications, give approx- imately 5% to 10% bonus hours of service life to the piston and liner, over and above the extended service life. Combined with a competi- tive initial cost factor, this extended liner life makes Baker SPD triplex and duplex A-Line liners the most cost and performance efficient in the current industry.

A-LINE PACKING Recommended for high pressure applications. A-Line liner packing prevents excessive packing extrusion. This packing has an extrusion resistant design featuring hard corners which are an integral part of seal rings. The soft nitrile element rubber center establishes fluid seal, while the hard corners prevent rubber extrusions into the pump bore and over liner flange shoulders. Except where noted, lantern rings in- terchange with those furnished by pump manufacturer or lantern rings A-Line Packing used in A-Line liner packing.

VALVE CAP, CYLINDER HEAD, AND PLUG SEAL GASKETSMolded of oil resistant duck and synthetic composition, these fluid end gaskets are designed to handle all drillingconditions, and afford positive sealing in all areas of both triplex and duplex mud pumps.Depending on the design, these gaskets are used as liner packing in many triplex and duplex mud pumps, thusaffording an additional cost savings to the drilling company.

HYDRAULIC VALVE SEAT PULLER 14 The Baker SPD Hydraulic Valve Seat Puller was developed for two 12 reasons: to eliminate damage to fluid ends caused by removing valve 3 10 5 seats with a cutting torch, and to reduce the possibility of personal injury. 9 The puller unit can exert a force of over 200,000 pounds on the valve11 seat. The unit comes complete with a 25-ft hose so that the hand operated hydraulic pump can be placed at a safe distance from the mud 6 7 15 pump during pulling operations. The hose, puller unit, and pump are 8 equipped with quick disconnect couplings for easy handling. The pump comes complete with a pressure gauge. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE FIELD REPLACEMENT OFBAKER DOUBLE ANGLE O-RING VALVE INSERTPREPARATION OF VALVE1. Secure valve flange in a bench vise as shown, and cut off insert with any sharp tool or 500° maximum heat source.2. Clean valve cone and insert groove with any hydrocarbon based solvent. File Step No. 1 and 2 smooth any rough or chipped surfaces on the valve cone. Reduce all sharp edg- es to a 1/64 in. minimum radius. THIS IS IMPORTANT! Wipe clean and dry.3. With valve upside down and the cone plate positioned as shown, dimension “X” X must be greater than zero (0) to qualify for subsequent installation of a new insert.PREPARATION OF FIXTURE4. Secure Installation Tool #508443 with a socket type shoe in a vise with the bolt on top, as shown.5. Apply a light coat of clean medium weight bearing grease to all surfaces indicated by dotted lines. (Cone and groove of body. Top, inside, and bottom of insert. If eccentricity exists after two turns (#7 above), back off the bolt and reestablish insert/plate concentricity before proceeding.Note: Past experience has shown that turning the bolt by hand has not been veryefficient in assembling inserts. What has proven to be very efficient is the use of anair wrench. If at all possible, this is the assembly procedure that is recommended tobe used when installing inserts.INSERT SEATING9. USE A PLASTIC OR WOODEN MALLET. DO NOT USE A METALLIC HAMMER. Mallet the minor cone of the insert at one point until insert/groove alignment is ob- tained, then seat the insert evenly into the groove all around. DO NOT USE A STEEL HAMMER. Step No. 4, 5, 6, and 7STORAGE10. To protect the plates from loss and damage while in storage, place a used valve into the nested cone and installation plates. Place this assembly into the installa- tion tool and tighten the socket shoe onto the valve top stem to form a unitized assembly. Use a plastic or wooden mallet. DO NOT USE A METALLIC HAMMER.

The insert must be concentric with the installation plate. THIS IS IMPORTANT! NOTE: Use vise with jaw opening of no less than 10 in. Vise handle must be no less than 1 in. in diameter.

INSERT INSTALLATION 5. Tighten the vise two [2] full turns. Recheck insert/plate concentricity. If no eccen- tricity exists, continue to tighten the vise to insert installation. 6. If eccentricity exists after two [2] turns (#5 above), back off the vise and reestab- lish insert/plate concentricity before proceeding. As vise is tightened more, load will increase until tightening by hand will no longer be possible. At this point, use a 5 ft “cheater” pipe on the vise handle will move the insert to installation. NOTE: The installation plate will go metal to metal against the cone of the body. If the insert has not rolled over into the groove in the body, place a mallet against the edge of the insert and with another mallet, hit the first mallet until it drives the insert over the edge of the body and into the groove. The insert will appear completely distorted. Remove this assembly from the vise. Remove the installation plate from the body. Step No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 INSERT SEATING 7. USE A PLASTIC OR WOODEN MALLET. DO NOT USE A METALLIC HAM- MER. Mallet the minor cone of the insert at one point until insert/groove alignment is obtained, then seat the insert evenly into the groove all around. DO NOT USE A STEEL HAMMER. Insert should extend over edge of body cone at least 1/32 in. If any area of insert is larger, continue to use mallet until insert is even all around.
