ProTorque attracts and employs some of the industry’s most talented and experienced casing running technicians. Every detail of a casing run must be considered when looking for cost savings and efficiency; particularly on long production strings where every second counts while maintaining a safe operation. When making-up hundreds of connections, filling on the fly and selecting the correct handling equipment (air or hydraulic powered slips); we save time and effort on long challenging casing runs. A two-speed Hydra-Shift® motor coupled with a two-speed gear train provides (4) torque levels and (4) RPM speeds. Easily shift the hydraulic motor in low speed to high speed without stopping the tong or tublar rotation, saving rig time.

A patented door locking system (US Patent 6,279,426) for Eckel tongs that allows for latchless locking of the tong door. The tong door swings easily open and closed and locks when torque

is applied to the tong. When safety is important this locking mechanism combined with our safety door interlock provides unparalleled safety while speeding up the turn around time between connections. The Radial Door Lock is patented protected in the following countries: Canada, Germany, Norway, United Kingdom, and the United States.

The field proven Tri-Grip® Backup features a three head design that encompasses the tubular that applies an evenly distributed gripping force. The Tri-Grip®Backup provides exceptional gripping capabilities with either Eckel True Grit® dies or Pyramid Fine Tooth dies. The hydraulic backup is suspended at an adjustable level below the power tong by means of three hanger legs and allowing the backup to remain stationary while the power tong moves vertically to compensate for thread travel of the connection.

Stan"s designed a bucking machine for sale to Argus. The contract provided that Argus would not copy, reproduce, duplicate or alter the unit. The machine was used to screw on collars to oil field casings. Argus subsequently copied the machine contrary to the terms of the contract. Two major oil companies, interested in the machine, invited tenders. Stan"s bid was unsuccessful. The contracts were awarded to other companies who used the copied machines. Stan"s brought an action for damages against Argus for breach of the contract.

The Alberta Court of Queen"s Bench, in a judgment reported 77 A.R. 175, allowed the action and awarded $324,000 damages, being 50% of the estimated loss of profits by Stan"s. Argus appealed.

The Alberta Court of Appeal allowed the appeal in part. The court affirmed liability but reduced damages by $183,250, to reflect the trial judge"s overestimation of Stan"s chance of winning all three contracts.

Illegal contracts - Contrary to public policy - Restraint of trade - Covenant prohibiting copying of purchased product - A vendor designed a machine for sale to the purchaser - The contract provided that the purchaser would not copy the machine - The Alberta Court of Queen"s Bench held that the covenant in restraint of trade was enforceable - The restraint was not void against public policy; the covenant was entered into freely by a knowledgable purchaser having an equal bargaining position with the vendor and the restraint was reasonable to protect the vendor"s interest in the unique machine - The Alberta Court of Appeal affirmed the purchaser"s liability.

Contracts - Breach of contract - Loss of profits - A purchaser of a machine breached a contract provision providing that it would not copy the machine - The vendor lost an estimated $648,000 in profits because of unsuccessful tenders on three projects - The contracts went to companies using the copied machines - The Alberta Court of Queen"s Bench, allowing for contingencies, awarded the vendor $324,000 damages, reflecting the trial judge"s finding that the vendor had a 50% chance of having its tenders accepted - The Alberta Court of Appeal reduced the damages by $183,250 - The court held that the trial judge overstated the vendor"s chances of having its tenders accepted - The court substituted estimates of 10% for two contracts and affirmed the 50% estimate for the other.
