Financial Associated Press, January 12 - Rongsheng Petrochemical announced that the 40 million T / a refining and chemical integration project (phase II) of Zhejiang Petrochemical, a holding subsidiary, was fully put into operation. Up to now, the oil refining, aromatics, ethylene and downstream chemical products units in phase II of the project have been fully put into commissioning, and the whole process has been opened. The company will further improve the commissioning of relevant process parameters and improve the production and operation level.

Rongsheng Petrochemical (brand value up 43% to US$2.3 billion) achieved very strong growth this year, rising two places in the chemicals ranking and jumpingfrom 10th to 8th place amongst global chemicals brands. The Chinese brand owns various globally significant facilities, including an integrated refining-petrochemical complex with the refining capacity of 40 million tons per annum.

(Reuters) Chinese conglomerate Zhejiang Rongsheng Holding Group plans to double capacity of a joint venture refining project to 800 Mbpd in 2020, two years after the first phase starts up, senior company officials said Thursday.

The project, a venture among private companies led by Rongsheng, is planning to start up the 400 Mbpd first phase in 2018, aiming to meet the group"s requirements for petrochemical feedstocks.

“We see the need to advance to the next stage as we face competition from both the national team and the provincial team. We can’t afford operating like a plate of scattered sand,” said Zhang Liucheng, a vice president of Shandong Dongming Petrochemical Group [SDHLYD.UL], one of the initiators of the stronger alliance.

The need for the independent refiners to club together is heightened by the emergence of new rivals, such as provincial government-backed private chemical giants like Rongsheng Holding Group and Hengli Group [HLGRP.UL] that are building or planning refining complexes on China’s eastern coast.
