baso safety valve factory
Gas Safety ValvesThese valves automatically control main gas flow. Our automatic pilot valves shut off both the main and pilot gases. Pilot gas is tapped from the main line within the control. Gas will flow only to the pilot burner when the reset button is depressed. The manual pilot valve stop can be adjusted for maximum pilot flow.
Since its inception in 1914, BASO has been recognized as an innovative leader in developing and manufacturing a wide range of quality gas control products and accessories. Originally called Milwaukee Gas Specialty Company, the facility produced gas range accessories and later added products for water heaters and furnaces.
When the company was granted an exclusive license to manufacture and market the Baltimore-Automatic Shut-Off (BASO) switch in 1934, Milwaukee Gas Specialty Company and BASO quickly became synonymous. The company’s name was officially changed to BASO, Inc. in 1957.
BASO Gas Products LLC, was formed on August 30, 2004, when Johnson Controls sold its BASO gas valve and pilot burner business in Watertown, Wisconsin, to George Sopko. For the previous 12 years, George had been the Johnson Controls Watertown Plant Manager. The vision to “go it alone” and purchase this business arose from the strong belief that success lies with a dedicated team of people focused on the customer and product quality, while operating in an environment using world class manufacturing methods and practices.
Today, locally owned BASO continues with the same employees, which means customers can continue to obtain the same BASO products, manufactured and supported by the same people, with the same dedication to quality.

Control shuts off both main & pilot gas. Pilot gas is taken from within the control. Pilot activated by reset button. For all fuel gases. For full specs on the Baso Gas Products™ valve listed here, download the PDF below.
NOTE: The number (or number and letter) that appear after the model number (such as H19RA-2C) apply only to how the valve is packaged from the manufacturer. So, an H19RA-1 is the same exact valve as a H19RA-2C... it is just packaged differently.
Flame safety is a critical aspect of any gas-fired system, but it can present puzzling choices. What equipment do you need? Which parts can be substituted? At Charles A. Hones, Inc. we use Johnson Control’ line of Baso™ safety valves and other components to tailor flame safety on Buzzer gas burners and furnaces to the user’s needs. This brief guide can help you select the right equipment for your job.
The H15 series Baso valve will provide 100% shut down of gas flow in the event of pilot failure. The H15 series valve is recommended for low pressure gas only (1/2 PSI or 14”w/c). We supply this valve in four types of sets, as follows.
This set can be used on larger pipe burners and burners such as FR-14 and multiple pipe burners that include cross flame pilots. 1” Baso set can be used on larger ring burner and discport burners (606, 606A, 312 and 313), larger 2020 Fire-Box oven furnaces and larger melters (#2700, 171A and 172). List $250.
Note: Many Buzzer furnaces already include a #50 cast iron pilot (including the 171A, #250, #2700, ACR 60, and 185 salt bath furnace). Many Buzzer furnaces also come equipped with a redundant pilot system in which the smaller J99 style pilot ignites off the larger #50 cast iron pilot. Please call the factory if you have any questions. Additionally, parts can be substituted. For example, for an IH300 straight style complete with solenoid valves, gas cocks, and pressure gauges, you will need to replace the 60” thermocouple with a 72” thermocouple. This would add $16.00 to the cost. Please refer to the parts price list or call the Hones factory to assist in such modifications.
A safety mechanism used and required for all school settings. When the forge flame is not detected, the fuel will be shut off preventing possible fire hazard and/or asphyxiation.
The Baso valve shuts off gas if the forge flames out. It goes between the feeder tube and the ball valve of your forge. Please be advised that any gas forge being sold to a school must have a Thermocouple Safety System installed. This is the price for the BASO Safety system factory installed. Please note that this is for NC Forges only, and the finished product will be shipped directly from the manufacturer.
NOTE: Previous version of this valve had thermocouple port on main axis of part near gas out, it is now on the side. This will not affect installation.
