Shackles are used for towing, hoisting, and load bearing applications. Lexco® Cable stocks anchor shackles (or “bow” type) and chain bolt shackles (or “D” type) in galvanized and stainless steel varieties. Alloy materials are also available for applications requiring extremely high workloads. We carry both domestic (Made in the USA) shackles and imported shackles.
Our shackles are available with three common types of pins: screw pins, round pins, and bolt-type or safety pins. Screw pins screw into position, round pins operate similarly to clevis pins, and bolt-type pins feature threading with nuts and cotter pins to ensure secure loads for maximum safety.
Lexco’s galvanized and alloy material shackles comply with US Federal Spec RRC-271D Type IV. Our stainless steel shackles are available in dimensions that comply with this Federal Spec and in non-fed spec dimensions. Stainless steel shackles are type 316 and are available in forged as well as cast construction.
All our shackles are available in bulk quantities, or as part of completed cable assemblies. We specialize in cable assembly fabrication, and can create the ideal assembly for your application, saving you time and money in production costs.

Wide shackle uses overall forged alloy steel, its safety factor (testing load to working load): 2 for 55t-300t; 1.5 for 400t; 1.33 for 500t-2000t, it suits for connection of synthetic fiber sling and wire rope sling.
Below is a sampling of shackle styles we offer. Similar to other rigging hardware, shackles can be used in a variety of load securement and rigging applications.
Soft Shackles are constructed of HMPE high-modulus polyethylene) rope and used in place of traditional metal shackles. They are light weight, high strength, easy handling, and abrasion resistant, among many other perks.
Synthetic Sling Shackles are designed to be used specifically with synthetic flat web or round slings. The wider bow helps increase the sling’s efficiency by reducing bunching or pinching which can damage the slings.
Wide Body Shackles or Sling Shackles have an increased bow radius. This increased bow radius promotes a better D/d ratio, eliminates the need for a thimble eye, and prevents bunching and kinking of slings.
When selecting a shackle for your application, always ensure the working load limit (WLL) at least meets or exceeds the load for the application. Your shackle WLL should also be comparable to the other rigging hardware and slings being used.
Screw Pin Shackle uses a threaded pin inserted through the shackle ears and tightened down. The fast and easy connection and disconnection of these shackles make them convenient for “pick and place” applications. Screw pin shackles can be used in applications where side loading is present with consideration to the reduced WLL.
Round Pin Shackle uses a round, unthreaded pin which is secured by a cotter pin. Round pin shackles are only to be used in applications where the load is applied strictly in-line such as suspension, tie-down, or towing.
Bolt-Type Shackle uses a nut, and cotter pin combination to secure the bolt in place. Bolt-type shackles are able to be used in any application a screw pin or round pin shackles are used. Bolt-type shackles can be used in applications where side loading is present with consideration to the reduced WLL. Bolt-type shackles are recommended for long-term or permanent applications.
Wire rope thimbles also known as cable thimbles, are used for making reinforce loop(eyelet) with grips, clips or clamps by preventing fraying caused by friction at the bearing anchor point to protect and extend the service life of the wire rope or sling. They are just one of the many types of wire rope fittings (ferrules, wire rope clips, terminals, etc.).
Wire rope thimbles are available in a variety of strengths and materials(carbon steel and stainless steel, see our post on Surface Finish: 4 Common Types You Should Know) but mainly they come in two different duty grades.
If you use it in high moisture or corrosive environments, recommend our stainless steel wire rope thimbles which can offer resistance to corrosion on the surface, particularly in marine applications.
Simply wrap the end of the wire rope around the outer groove of the thimble, lace the dead end of the wire rope past the U-bolt of the wire rope grips or a wire rope ferrule crimp to hold onto the bearing anchor point at the end of the thimble to prevent fraying caused by friction.
Once in place, put another wire rope clip as near the loop you just wrapped over the thimble. Turn nuts firmly but do not yet tighten to the proper torque, we recommend using a crimping/swaging tool to compress the ferrule firmly onto the rope to hold your thimble loop securely.
Alternatively, you can use a wire rope ferrule crimp to secure your thimble in place. this method is quick and easy to install. For further information on installation using a wire rope ferrule please – click here
Wire rope thimbles are used in conjunction with cable and rope to protect the eyes and will allow for smooth rope guiding around natural curves. So that the most important thing is to make sure the thimble eye securely fastened. Here are some tips for correctly using wire rope thimble:
Make sure that the cable thimbles size properly and securely fastened in the eye of the loop, not too loose or too tighten, so they can create an extra layer of support to connect with other properly sized rigging fittings.
While you are using a vinyl coated cable, you should multiply the actual size of the cable, usually use a larger size thimble than normal, for the actual diameter is the thickness of the vinyl coating plus the inside wire rope diameter. For example, if you are using a 5/16″ vinyl coated cable that is coated to 3/8″ diameter, you’d want to use a 3/8″ wire rope thimble.
