The first wire rope clamp is fitted close to the thimble, however, with roller-like thimbles, it must be fitted at a distance of at least 2x the thimble diameter. The wire rope clamps must be spaced far enough apart to leave a free distance of at least the width of one wire rope clamp. The clamping bars must always be placed on the unstressed end of the rope.
The clamp should always be placed on the load bearing part of the rope, whereas the clip should be placed on the dead (short) part of the rope. Clip distance = 6 x rope diameter.
