Responsible for all work performed related to servicing of the well including rod basket and tubing board (transferring rods and tubing from the vertical racks to the elevator)

Pulls and lays down rods, tubing, casing, and other equipment as needed. At times, lifting of equipment may require the use of a forklift, winch, or assistance of other crew members

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee may also be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the environment is moderate to loud depending upon the location.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk; feel, grasp, reach and lift up to 25 pounds. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear and smell; and lift more than 50 pounds. The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Losses in the oil and gas industry are continuing, with big companies in Denver and nationwide saying they’ll be cutting budgets and people this year to survive the downturn.

“It’s a tough time to be someone who works in the oil and gas industry,” Doug Suttles, Encana Corp.’s CEO told analysts during a conference call Wednesday.

“The job reductions, not only in Encana but across the industry, have been as severe as I’ve ever seen in 33 years. ... I hope people have empathy. These are real people with lives and families,” Suttles said.

Encana (NYSE: ECA), which has its U.S. headquarters in Denver, will lay off 20 percent of its staff this year, following a 20 percent cut done in 2015.

Encana isn’t saying how many people will be affected by the latest cuts, or where the jobs would be cut, but the newspaper figured “another 500 people would lose their jobs this year.”

Encana last year announced a $900 million deal to sell its entire operation in the Denver-Julesburg Basin north and east of Denver, to a newly formed Denver oil and gas company called Crestone Peak Resources. The deal is expected to close by the end of the second quarter.

A spokesman for Bill Barrett Corp. (NYSE: BBG) based in Denver, said this week t hat the company laid off “less than 20 percent” of its staff in a reorganization that also eliminated the chief financial officer position.

And Thursday, Houston’s Halliburton Co. (NYSE: HAL), a major oilfield service company with operations in Colorado, announced it will cut another 5,000 workers, or 8 percent of its remaining global workforce.

With the latest layoffs, the Houston-based provider of drilling and hydraulic fracturing services will have let go nearly 29,000 workers, or more than a quarter of its headcount since staffing reached its peak in late 2014, according to Bloomberg.

Halliburton spokeswoman Emily Mir said via email that, "Details of specific businesses and the number of employees by location is competitive information and therefore unavailable."

The oilfield service sector has been hard hit by the downturn, as the operating companies seek to survive by cutting their costs and pulling back on activity.

Denver-based Whiting Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: WLL) said Wednesday it will halt all completions — the industry term for hydraulic fracturing — in the second quarter. The company is one of the biggest oil producers in North Dakota"s Bakken play.

Drilled but uncompleted wells are basically holes in the ground that can be hydraulically fractured, or fracked, at a later date to take advantage of a rise in oil prices.

Whiting said it expects to have 73 wells that are drilled but uncompleted in the Bakken and Three Forks basins in North Dakota, plus an additional 95 drilled but uncompleted wells in the Denver-Julesburg Basin’s Niobrara play by the end of 2016.

Overall, Whiting said it expects to spend $500 million in 2016, down about 80 percent from its 2015 investment level. And most of it will be spent in the first half of the year before it “winds down” completion activity.
