One of the common causes of problems in mechanized systems is degraded hose fittings. Once we have inspected your agricultural machines and established this to be the root of the problem, we will ensure that the replaced hose fittings are in excellent condition. This helps to improve the longevity of the machine and deliver better performance.

We will discuss with you the specific needs of your hydraulic cylinders, allowing us to design the cylinder in such a way that they are tailored to your needs. If you have an existing cylinder in place, our team of experts will work on repairing it so that it helps you to meet your goals and objectives.

Over the years that we have provided agricultural machinery repair services, we have encountered customers with a wide array of needs. Today, we have all the machinery required to handle almost every type of hydraulic-related job. All you need to do is to contact us and explain what is on your mind, and we will devise a way to make it happen.

As long as the drive/hydrostatic pumps are OK, you should be fine. I just replace the hydraulic pump (the one that controls the arms/bucket) on an 863 about a month ago. The customer bought the parts which included a new pump and an adapter fitting (because the new one was ported differently), and I think the parts total was somewhere areound $700.

As far as the system being contaminated, what happened to the old pump? Typlcally the pump body is made of aluminium, and they will wear internally until they don"t work anymore. That said, unless it just flat out disentigrated, there"s really nothing in the system to clean out, as any of the material that came from it would have been filtered out of it by the return oil filter. Even if it did disentigrate, there"s not alot you can really do to "clean" it out without taking every part of the system apart, and running something through each and every line to inure no particles of pump remain. That said since the pump does nothing but work the cylinders on the loader arms having it 110% "squeaky clean" isn"t as important as it would be if it ran a hydraulic motor, etc. (like the hydrostatic system). In other words the cylinders are usually going to do nothing but suck in any material and the force it right back out when they reverse direction, with no real harm caused.

Ultimately, like I said, unless the old pump just completely disentigrated, there"s really not alot you need to do to get the machine back in operation. Basically reassemble it with the new pump, run it for a day or so to flush out the system, and then change the filter, and you should be good to go.

Over the years I"ve changed out quite a few pumps that "went bad" on everything from dozers to excavators. Unlike the dealerships who want to charge both arms and legs, and other parts of the anatomy, to do a complete system cleanout/flush, I have never had a customer put me in a position time, or money, wise to go to that extreem. To that end I"ve always done the best I could to insure the tank, etc was clean, and that the return filters were new/clean. I never worried about the valving or anything like that as going to that extrem would have, in most cases taken weeks to do. I have never had a problem out of any of the machines I have repaired caused by material from the damaged pump.

Right in the middle of a time-sensitive job your CAT skid steer loader won’t move. It’s a hydraulic motor, and you need a replacement ASAP. What can you expect when you go online to find a replacement? What should you look for when comparing different companies? That"s the topic of this Shop Talk Blog post.

You have some options as to how you can approach replacement of Rexroth hydraulic motors for your CAT skid steer. You can purchase a new hydraulic motor directly from your local Caterpillar dealer, directly through Caterpillar online, or you can purchase one from a Rexroth distributor.

Some companies will offer at a considerable discount compared to the price of a new motor -- possibly saving thousands of dollars. In general, a remanufactured hydraulic motor will be of a much higher level of quality than a rebuilt one because a remanufactured one will be restored to meet or exceed original factory specifications.

Most of the companies that sell hydraulic motors online will have their prices posted online so you can tell in instant if it fits into your budget. Not all companies will do that, however. If they don’t have a price listed then you will either need to request a quote or give them a call.

Just about all companies that deal in final drives and hydraulic motors will have some type of warranty in place. How long the warranty lasts usually depends on whether it’s a reman/rebuilt hydraulic motors or a new one. Not all remanufactured or rebuilt hydraulic motors come with a warranty, however. Those that are available vary; one option is a one-year trouble free warranty on parts and labor, but not all companies will offer that.

In the end, you’re basically looking for a solid estimate of your skid steer O&O costs. You can use it to evaluate your anticipated hourly costs over the life of a machine you’re interested in buying.

This will also give you a baseline number and help you evaluate whether a certain machine met, exceeded or failed to meet expectations. It will also help you hone your evaluation, especially if unexpected costs cropped up, for the next skid steer you buy.

To give us a baseline for this discussion, we’ll be looking at the 74-horsepower Bobcat S66 R-Series skid steer. The 2,400-pound rated- operating-capacity machine weighs 7,154 pounds and has a 17.6-gpm standard and 26.9-gpm high-flow hydraulic system. Joystick controls are optional.

The unit sits smack in the center of Bobcat’s skid steer lineup, which ranges from the 760-pound rated-operating-capacity S70 to the 3,950-pound ROC S850. Bobcat is currently converting its skid steers from the M Series to its R series.

New to R-Series skid steers and compact track loaders is Features on Demand. By enabling this option, users can choose to turn on the following whenever they want: high-flow hydraulics, automatic ride control, dual-direction bucket positioning, reversing fan and auto-throttle. “It gives them the flexibility to add each of these features down the road instead of up front,” Zima explains. “They can also opt for a 20-hour demo. You’re not paying as much as you would if you chose to add them later.”

High-vibration asphalt and concrete applications, where customers are running breakers or planers, are heavy-duty jobs for skid steers. “You’re wearing out your bushings and pins, and your lift arms get a lot of abuse in those types of applications,” Zima says. Also on the severe-duty list are forestry and paper recycling applications.

“If you look at our typical construction customer, they are putting on about 800 hours a year,” Zima says. Add around 200-plus hours a year for a more severe application. (This includes Bobcat’s entire skid steer range, not just the S66.)

Incoming telematics data, however, places around 80% of Bobcat’s customers (which include several non-construction categories such as agriculture and hobby farmers) using skid steers between 100 to 500 hours per year.

Past experience and maintenance reputation can also factor into this equation. If you’ve purchased and traded-in or sold a similar-sized skid steer before, how much of the original price did you receive at resale? A reputation for keeping your machines in tip-top shape also could put money in your pocket at resale.

Another thing to consider: larger skid steers will have engines above 74 horsepower and will require diesel exhaust fluid as part of their emissions reduction system. So we’ve included a line for DEF in our cost calculator.

Your maintenance schedule – oil and filter changes and other preventive maintenance items – is spelled out in your operator’s manual. For example, the recommended engine oil change interval on the S66 is now 750 hours; Bobcat eliminated the 50-hour oil change on its previous M-Series skid steers.

Bobcat says R-Series engine and hydraulic oil change intervals have increased because of component, system, filter and oil improvements. Fuel filters now have sensors that will notify the operator when they need to be changed.

Bobcat, for example, offers skid-steer buyers a free telematics “health and security basics” three-year subscription, one that goes with the machine if it’s sold or traded before the subscription is up.

Hydraulic pumps must be in prime working condition to smoothly operate tractor implements. If your hydraulic pump has seen better days, Complete Tractor is your source for precision engineered pumps that match OEM counterparts for fit and performance. Our pumps will generate pressure equal to the original pump that came with your machinery, enabling the hydraulic system to achieve full power and optimal operating efficiency.

Hydraulic pumps convert mechanical power into hydraulic energy. These pumps work in two ways: 1) A vacuum is created at the pump inlet, which forces liquid to flow from the reservoir to the inlet line of the pump, and 2) The liquid travels to the pump outlet and into the hydraulic system, generating power to run the hydraulic system.

Complete Tractor’s hydraulic pumps match OEM specifications for listed applications. That means your new hydraulic pump will fit exactly as the old one that’s being replaced, making installation a breeze.

Complete Tractor knows you work hard for your money. That’s why we give you topline quality at a price that beats many competitors. Make sure you get a pump that meets your expectations for performance and long service life at a price that goes easy on the wallet. Our hydraulic pumps are the real deal when it comes to value.

Complete Tractor stands behind every product we sell. That’s why we back everything up with a 1-year warranty. If your new hydraulic pump should fail to live up to your expectations, just get in touch with us and we’ll do right by you.

Check electrical connections to the pressure switch or motor or for failed hardware such as the pressure valve, hydraulic motor, or coupler. See the Programmable Pressure Adjustment Valve - Troubleshooting Guide for more information.

Check the condition of the hydraulic hose fittings: Look for leaks at both ends of the hose. If a leak is found, try tightening the fittings. Refer to Lathe - Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU) - Hoses and Fittings - Maintenance. If a fitting has cracks [5], wear, continues to leak, the hose must be replaced.

Make sure Setting 216 SERVO AND HYDRAULIC SHUTOFF is set to (120) seconds or less. Do not have this setting set to (0), the HPU will not turn off, and will create unwanted air bubbles and heat. This setting will power-down the HPU when the machine is idle. This helps dissipate the air bubbles in the oil.

Note:If low pressure alarms are generated or the hydraulic pressure gauge comes up to pressure very slowly, it can be due to cold oil and/or a lower pressure setting. There is a long set screw snubber in the manifold behind the gauge and a 10 micron sintered bronze snubber in the gauge. These components protect gauges from failing during large pressure changes and slow the pressure gauge’s response to pressure changes or coming up to pressure from idle. These usually happen when the tailstock is reversing direction. These pressure changes are happening quicker at the chuck or tailstock then at the gauge or gauge page. The higher the pressure and warmer the oil, the faster the gauges will respond to pressure changes.

Find the coolant return line under the spindle. If chips block the coolant return line, coolant floods into the hydraulic union and will contaminate the HPU oil and cause it to foam. It can also cause the tank to overfill.
